Hal Sheeler is an exceptional Realtor. He helped us buy our house several years ago, he was great at picking out the houses we would really like based on the criterior we gave him. He could tell the areas we would like as well as the houses. Buying a house can be a stressful process but Hal Sheeler made the whole thing go smoothly. He was never pushy, just helpful. Then later when it came time to sell our house we went to Hal Sheeler again. The housing market was down at this time, Hal Sheeler worked tirelessly to sell our house and to get the best price for us. Again, all without being pushy, just helpful. Our house was on the market for less than the average time for the other houses in our flooded market, thanks to Hal Sheelers efforts. He never gave up and had great suggestions for us to improve the chances of our house selling. Hal Sheeler is not your typically Realtor, he is a pleasure to work with and I cant recommend him highly enough.

What do real estate agents charge?

Real estate agents typically don’t charge a set rate to their clients, but rather earn a commission on the price of the final home sale. In traditional real estate, there is a buyer’s agent and a seller’s agent. The two agents receive 5 percent to 6 percent of the final home sale price and split it evenly, meaning they each earn roughly 2.5 percent to 3 percent of the total home sale. If you are a home seller, you may have fees associated with the sale that are above and beyond the commission the agents earn. The real estate agent may have you pay marketing fees, MLS fees, early cancellation fees, or more.   • Home appraisal: $250-$400 or more, depending on region.

  • Closing costs: Often split between the seller and buyer. An average range for the buyer to pay is between 3 percent and 4 percent, with the seller paying a lower fee at 1 percent to 3 percent of the home’s price.
