I had a bunch of doors, pipes, styrofoam, electronics, paint cans. Carefully packed John showed up with 2 other guys, polite and professional. It was hard to price the load ahead of time so we negotiated quickly on the spot. I helped them load the truck and we were done in under 15 minutes. Fair price, good communication, junk is gone -- what more can you ask for!

We had a deadline fast approaching near the end of October. Baby due any day, recently purchased a house, the remodel was completed and the only thing left to do was paint. Cam came out immediately for a quote. Instant vibe, I could tell he was a hard working, honest guy. He was able to paint our house in a few days, getting everything done before our move-in. He even put in a few extra hours late into the evening just to make sure he would stay on schedule and meet our deadline. Like I said, hard-working guy. The quality was great and he knows his trade. Gave us some suggestions for making our colors pop more in the rooms. I will use Cam again for our future projects.

Julie was great to work with; she's a good communicator and a wonderful painter. We were pleased with both the planning/coordination and the results of our project. Julie worked on our space for two days (painting a basement bathroom, including four doors). Both days, she was here exactly when she said she'd be, and she left the work space clean from one day to the next. Our bathroom looks great! We look forward to having her paint for us again.

Jose was great to work with -- professional, flexible with scheduling, and very attentive to customer satisfaction. He and his team were careful to protect deck areas while painting and cleaned everything up well. They provided a quality paint job on our home at a great price and we're quite happy with how it turned out!

Leno and his associate did a great job on our interior painting project. We have high ceilings, which they handled with ease. Quality and timely work. We also had them spray paint our doors, as well as paint our trim and window sills (which required removing and re-installing all blinds - Leno was happy to do). He even came back at a later date to touch up a couple spots. All for a fair price. Will likely be using again and would definitely recommend them.

This Stacy Evans guy is AWESOME! Came in at 10:00am…had to run and grab more paint, but is almost finished with the one unit we gave him. He is also really reasonable price-wise.

I am pleased to tell anyone what a neat, quick, paint job you two Davids did in my apartment. From our first on line contact until you departed, I rated you in my own mind as fully professional in the best sense of the word. And too, I would recommend you without hesitation or qualification.

Great Job. My house is a 3 bedroom about 1800 square feet and it is about 80 years old. I hired Kriss's company, Cipro to paint the house which I was putting up for sale in Tacoma. I was worried because I was falling behind on my schedule and I wanted the job done fast and within a certain time frame. Kriss and his assistant worked on my house and It was amazing. They painted the walls, repaired a broken hole in one of the bedrooms and did the trims. They did a great job and I would hire them again. I was impressed

Gafco did a wonderful job painting our house! We had 4 painters and a supervisor arrive at 9AM. They did all the prep work and gave our 1800 sq foot home 2 coats of paint in addition to priming the trim. They did the whole house in one day. It looks really great!

Chris and Joe are a couple honest, hard working guys who want to leave you happy with their final product. When I initiated communication with them via the app, they quickly responded and arrived promptly at the scheduled time. We had multiple dry wall cracks in our house. They guaranteed a complete fix of the cracks, vs. a quick patch job, which what was done previously and the reason why it re-cracked. When providing the quote, they were clear that they don't choose the paint and leave that up to the owner to provide. Now I know why. I had to get multiple paints custom mixed at Lowes and none of they were a perfect match. This meant there was a visible difference on the paint over the crack fix vs. the rest of the wall. With that said, my one takeaway is to just let these guys quote for a complete paint job over the wall affected. It will be slightly more pricey, but look at lot better. Don't know a lot about paint? Express that to the guys and they will guide you in what type of paint to get! Trust them, they aren't trying to upsell you, only recommending what will look best. We ended up making optimizations to our dry wall project while it was going on, but it would have been a smoother and quicker process if we had agreed to a more comprehensive quote from the very beginning. I'm pleased with the work done and they were very respectful about keeping things tidy and leaving the house looking as it was before (meticulous hanging of plastic, masking, sweeping, and returning items as they were). One item I want to particularly applaud them on is how receptive they were to my questions and candid feedback. They have integrity in their work and genuinely want to leave the customer satisfied. They guaranteed their work and encouraged me to reach out if there was any issues.

Jim and his crew did a great job on my home! Turned a very old home with very old grey and blue paint that was over 20 years since the last paint job into a modern like new home with three new colors. Very pleased with the work!

I had my entire interior of my house painted including mill work. I was a bit nervous about how everything would turn since the last painter got spray paint on my dining table and ruined by front lawn by running it over with his oversized utility van so I had to fire them - argh!! Chuck was very professional, accommodating and respectful of my time by being always on time and responding promptly when I had questions. He made sure that I was 100% satisfied...and I am! It required him to come back a couple of times after the job was done to fix a couple of small minor things but he made sure it was taken care of. If recommend him to anyone that wants quality painting and great customer service. - Lea from Renton

Jose responded to my posting quickly, came out to provide an estimate the next day, and did the job as soon as the insurance company provided the estimate. They replaced a couple of posts in my garage that were damaged by a pizza delivery driver. This seemingly minor job involved everything from bracing a major beam that runs across the front of my house to some painting and minor finish work. The work was solid and as promised. They did the job while I was at work, and when I came home, the garage was swept out and they also had swept my driveway. In every stage of the job, they were professional and courteous. I would have them do more work in a heartbeat. Thank you very much!!!

This was a great company to work with! From the first meeting to the end of the project, Tom was very understanding about my business needs and very professional. I was very impressed how he showed up on time to our first meeting and answered all of my questions. I was definitely thrilled when his quote for my project came in at the best price (compared to 4 other painting companies). His team painted my office in Bellevue during our closed hours and did an amazing job. Their work was professional and beautiful and I will definitely be using this company again.

I had hired a different contractor who started job and bailed. Brian at craftsman construction saved me! I had them convert garage space into a bonus room. They also did a lot of sheetrock and sheetrock repair plus the entire house finish work/trim and painted walls and all doors. They did an impressive job, I would highly recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.
