Divya was very responsive when I needed to get makeup and hair done and I started looking for makeup artists a day before the event. Her quality was top notch and great value for money spent. Will definitely use her services again in future. Wish her all the best in the new city!

We loved her work and she came to the venue on-time. She got in touch with me promptly over the bridal and guests henna designs. Her henna mix had a lovely soothing fragrance and gave a very good color after just 2-3hrs of application. Few of my friends enquired if she'd sell her henna cones. She took about 4hrs for my bridal and 4hrs to cover about 40 hands. All my guests liked her work. She's a very sweet and friendly person. I'd highly recommend her for bridal and small parties. Thank you Harini for all the henna designs. Good luck! -Rashmi Abishek

Tina came to my house to do henna for my daughter's 12th birthday party. It was very professional considering the girls were being loud and not very respectful. Her price was very reasonable for 2 hours and the girls were very pleased with the work she did. I even had my young nieces in attendance and she made a butterfly and fish, which made them so happy.

Jada came to a reunion party with my school girl friends. She was able to listen to each one of us and accommodate all of our quirks. She arrived on time with all the necessary tools as a true professional should do. Her artistic spirit delivered lovely work. Everyone was happy! I would recommend Jada as a fabulous henna artist.

Very pleased with the work Jesai did for my daughter quinceañera. We contracted her for four hours to do face painting on our guests. The art work was so nicely done and creative. I would highly recommed, Jesai, to anyone looking to hire a face painter. She is very easy to talk to, reliable, safe and a very talented artist. Jesai, thank you! for helping make my daughter's quinceañera extra special. God bless you!

Nadia is a wonderful woman. She accommodated us on very short notice. Her house was very clean and tidy. She offered bottled water and little treats to us. She was very friendly and answered all of our questions. My daughter gave her a drawing of what she wanted and Nadia did an excellent job. Overall I would recommend and would love to see her again.

Henna has been used to adorn young women's bodies as part of social and holiday celebrations since the late Bronze Age in the eastern Mediterranean. The earliest text mentioning henna is in the context of marriage and fertility celebrations.

About

I make custom art which includes illustration, sculpting, hand drawings and henna application and design.

About

My work stands out because I take pride and put passion behind the work I produce. I take ideas from people, or come up with my own, to create an individual self-expression for my clients. I always take more time to create a piece of art than it takes to tattoo it because it's about the work being produced and not just a paycheck to me. It never hurts to get paid what your worth though and also tipped to show the appreciation for the passion behind the product being created. Good art not only looks better but feels better when getting it done.

About

I'm proud of my reputation both locally and by henna enthusiasts around the world for my precise, smooth lines and elegant placement on the body. My art is my passion, and I love to share it with others! Although I have always been an artist, my career for many years was in business. This has enabled me to provide an exceptional, professional experience to my clients. My business is fully licensed and insured (you might be surprised by how many henna "businesses" are not!), and we bring our full passion and professionalism to every engagement - whether for a private appointment or a large corporate gala.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.

How much does it cost to get a henna tattoo?

Nationally, the average cost to hire a henna artist is between $100 and $180 per hour. Rates will vary by location and the experience of the individual henna artist; it’s possible to find artists who charge less than $50 per hour. Some henna artists charge an hourly rate, especially for corporate events or festivals where they are providing service to multiple people within an hour. They may also charge flat rates for bridal and wedding services or special events. Here are some examples of average cost:

  • Hourly rate: $65-$85 or more per hour. Price is dependent on event size and number of attendees.
  • Starting rate for minimal palm designs: $15 or more.
  • Henna tattoos covering the hands and wrist and bottom of feet up to the ankle: $175.
  • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the mid-arm and feet to above the ankle: $300.
  • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the elbow and the feet to the knee: $450.
