Kristine came to my rescue when I was in over my head. I told her what was in my heart and she in turn captured it into incredible beautiful words. Her talent and skills as a writer is unmatched not to mention her incredible speed with delivery. I consider myself very fortunate to have had her write the content for my website. Thank you again Kristine for a job well done.

I am more than happy to write this testimonial in relation to the website design and development company Swift Whale Creative and its Studio Director, Anne Weeks. I am happy to do so for two reasons; firstly: I now have a website which makes my writing stand out in the crowd of cyberspace sites. I am a writer and author, poet and publisher, researcher and scholar in the evening of my life. My website is the venue for marketing my work and in the three months my site has been on the world-wide-web(21/3/'11 to 21/6/'11) it has shone brightly in the pantheon of my competitors. I don't expect to be famous or rich, but I want to and expect to be read and this expectation has been more than satisfied in just these three months of the presence of my site on the net. Secondly, I was involved in negotiating the style and content, the strategy and the many fine details of what is and was my complex and extensive site with Anne Weeks, the Studio Director, from the preliminary phase of my site's construction in September 2010 until after my site went live in March 2011. My site has some 72 categories and sub-categories of my writing and content and several million words. It's a relatively big slice of cyberspace given the infinity of space in that parallel universe. Anne possessed many qualities that made this 8 month process of getting my site on the interent the relatively easy road that it was. I write and have written 1000s of emails in the last ten years of my life on the internet and I know how easy it is to say the wrong thing and upset the sensitivities of my readers, friends and associations, without even trying--indeed, in the process trying to put one's best foot foreward, so to speak. Anne was consistently: patient, diplomatic, understanding of my needs and desires, prompt to reply to my myriad requests for information and ideas, a provider of explanations which were simple to follow, a skilled co-ordinator and facilitator between myself and Daniel Sullivan and the rest of the Swift Whale Creative team. I have no trouble in recommending Anne and Swift Whale Creative to others who want to design and build a framework for their websites using the user friendly CMS system. Indeed, I would be more than happy to provide even more of a testimonial over the phone(03-63824790), by email(ronprice@gmail.com), or snailmail(6 Reece Street, George Town, Tasmania, Australia, 7253) since my writing is out there in the world getting 1000s, indeed, hundreds of thousands of readers thanks to the work of Swift Whale Creative and the team, Anne Weeks, Daniel Sullivan and, of course, myself---since I have become even more of an internet entrepreneur as well. Yours sincerely Ron Price George Town Tasmania

Amy has helped my company with copyediting, content editing, fact checking, and writing. She is always very communicative, and hits her deadlines. We often give her the "hard" tasks because we know we can depend on her, and she can figure things out independently.

We've used Griffin Media to completely transform our company website, to set ourselves up with search engines and other online marketing platforms, as well as to create a printable company brochure regarding our services. Bart was amazing to work with during each project. He communicates clearly about scope and milestones, asks questions and actively listens, understands the digital landscape open to companies these days, and is really skilled with visual representation of content. He worked with us on a tiered roll-out, which helped from both a bandwidth and finance perspective, which was much appreciated. We are extremely happy with the end results and would recommend his services to any business or entrepreneur looking to invest resources into their message to potential clients or employees.

It used to be that the lay person could do Wordpress, but security issues have gotten way too complicated. David built out the security part of my Wordpress site and set me up to do content generation myself. He was easy to work with and very responsive. I need to go back for a tuneup or a new site soon.

Amazing web designer (Wordpress) for our business web site. Dallas & team dramatically increased our SEO and leads coming from the web, which has turned into customers visiting our business. She gave a leading and best in class advice and actions to improve our total online eco-system: Facebook, Yelp, Google Review, etc, to create a very powerful online marketing tool ... we saw results immediately!! Mike is a fantastic Seattle web designer. He creatively drove the development of Camp ReCreation (camprecreation.org), a non-profit for which I served on the Board. We were in need of a fresh look that not only captured our roots, but also conveyed where the organization was headed. Mike effectively accomplished the goal with a content management system that allowed the non-profit to save time and money on a web master running the show.

Message Glue, specifically Ken Boynton, helped AFC rebuild our website. We went into it with a site from 2010 and, as a registered investment advisor, a lot of government regulation about what could and could not be said. Ken took everything in stride, writing and rewriting intelligent and insightful content for the site, connecting us with professionals who did quality work where he felt his personal skills weren't what we needed, and gave us realistic and valuable feedback on the project. AFC can't recommend Ken and Message Glue highly enough; they are masters of capturing a company's story and taking the time to understand our business.

I had no idea on how to get started on my site, Let's just say my knowledge was between dirt and a rock, just turned in my black flip phone which did not even text. Michele not only had to design a site that I liked, I mean really liked, but had to put up with me (training comp. 101). Always stayed "Professional", even when I asked what are you talking about, if it took her a dozen times to explain, Michele always was there with patent answers. My Art Site is a extension of my art work, best way to explain, the very last brush stroke is always the frame. I thought that is, until I wanted to sell on the internet. Now the "VERY LAST BRUSH STORKE" is your web site, and I lucked out, with a professional who cared as much about her creation as I did mine. Who understood that your site is a one on one representation of you and your company. Since 80% of all sales is completely with by a personal connection, your web site takes the place of you. So the company and or person creating it, and bringing it to life, must understand you, your product and the customer. Michele gets 10 on 10 for that, cause she spent the time getting to know me, my product and how I wanted it represented. Thank You ! Michele, for yesterday, the completion, and our continuing future working together as I grow. T. A. Sacco, Silhouette Artist.

Lori Paulson, Helped us develop a logo for our business da Vinci Business Solutions, a company started in Aberdeen Washington that was started to provide support services for medical clinics and physician offices. Starting with Leonardo da Vinci's drawing of a helicopter type flying machine she extracted the shape of the propeller and used it as inspiration for a logo. I was very impressed with the effect of the aesthetic of her design while avoiding over complication in the design. Going beyond her incredible design, her color choice for the logo projected a strong sense of professionalism and trust. She was also able to design versions of the logo that optimized the appearance of our letterhead and business cards. She was also able to extend the artwork to our web page. We have had many complements on the look of our logo and I would eagerly recommend her to anyone who wants to upgrade their business image. I would also mention that working with Lori was a pleasure. She is very professional. when we needed some help putting together a brochure, she went out of her way to make it happen for us even though we came to her at the last minute. If you need to create powerful imagery, want to work with a professional you can rely on and to know your going to get value for your money, I would recommend you contact Lori Paulson.

And most importantly, he knows how to work and communicate with everyone from developers to content professionals to upper management.

We don't have an internal marketing team so we needed a lot of help on several fronts. Mallory is amazing at wearing multiple hats across content, web, PR and lead gen. She knows how to get things done and quickly pulls together an approach that details all aspects of the timeline, investment, expert resources, etc. She is not only a real pleasure to work with but excels at moving a team from ideas to specific, targeted action. I heartily recommend her.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

          • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
          • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
          • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What do you look for in a web design company?

The web design company you choose must be able to interpret your company’s mission and identity and turn it into an appealing website that connects with potential customers. They must help you reach your target audience and meet your business goals. A web design agency should have on staff both talented web designers, with fresh ideas and extensive technical and creative skills, and a marketing team that knows how to drive traffic to your site, encourage visitor engagement, and convert visitors into customers. Web designers should be able to build in search optimization and integrate your site with a content management system and e-commerce tools. Look, too, for a website design company that understands responsive design and can optimize your website for mobile devices and desktop browsers. The right web design company understand current design and website trends, has experience building sites in a variety of industries (not just yours), and has an expansive portfolio of live websites. Finally, don’t simply hire the cheapest bidder — in web design, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

How do you hire a web designer?

You’ve determined that the best way to create a professional, modern, mobile-friendly new website is to hire a professional web designer to build it. To hire the best person for the job — and to get the web design that best fits your company’s identity — it’s important to ask a few key questions:

          • What’s the scope of the work? Will the website be basic with just a few pages about your company, its services, and contact information? Or will it also have an e-commerce section for online shopping, a blog, or content for visitors to download? Before you hire a web designer, make sure you have a thorough, specific list of the components you must have the designer include in the web design.
          • What do you want your website to look like? Consider websites that are similar to the one you’d like to build, ideally in the same industry or serving similar types of customers. Build a set of examples of types of pages, design aspects, and website features that you can hand off to the web designer — the person you hire should have experience creating websites with the features you want. If they don’t have the right skill set, they’re not the right pro for you.
          • What’s the web designer’s start-to-finish process? What will the final deliverable be? Before you hire someone, make sure their availability works with your timeline and that their process meets your expectations. Most important is finding a web designer who will work collaboratively with you to create a successful online presence.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
