Max and Team were excellent. We moved a 4 bedroom house and they took great care in packing, disassembly and assembly of our furniture. They were very respectful and made sure that they heard our special requests as we moved into a new house with new carpet. These guys - especially the gentleman from Tunisia were super polite and helpful. I will certainly recommend them to anyone moving.

Let me start by saying I've been in the transportation industry for over 30 yrs, half at UPS on the east coast, so I fully appreciate and value hustle and a strong work ethic, especially in such a labor intensive field. Preston and Ali worked so efficiently and professionally, words don't adequately convey how good they were. They overcame access obstacles to get the stuff out of my old place as quickly as possible, packing the truck intelligently to utilize every square inch of space, top to bottom, front to back, insuring the contents were safe and secure. The unload location had much better access and they maximized that advantage, knocking the job out with amazing rapidity, even carrying quite a bit upstairs for me. Preston is a very astute and thoughtful business owner, who treats customers and their belongings with sincere care. He wants you to be happy with your decision to hire ALL STAR MOVING. I was completely satisfied and thoroughly pleased with his work and extremely fair pricing; I truly felt like I got a significant bargain. Other movers have charged me double to move less stuff with more employees in 35% more time, plus unreasonable travel fees to and from their place of business. Preston's pricing was evidence of his integrity even before I hired them. I will absolutely hire them again and highly recommend them to anyone. In fact, I was so impressed I'd hire him in any line of work.

Stephen responded quickly with a bid, and we were able to schedule the assembly quickly as well. Professionalism (on-time arrival, polite, friendly) and quality of work were both good, and the bid was a reasonable price for the job. Would use his services again.

Not only did they do a great job at packing my furniture, but when making the arrangements for the move, they gave me tips on what supplies I would need and the best place to go buy them. All around I can't say how much they helped from the office to the actual movers themselves.

Alan and his assistant did a solid job moving all of our stuff out of our house and into a storage unit. This required plenty of assessments along the way and creative stacking/packing planning of our odd shaped furniture and normal boxes to get everything from the truck to fit into the storage unit which already had some of our stuff in it from staging the house for sale! They hustled and work consistently through out the job and only made a quick break to grab food for lunch as we headed out on the drive to storage. I would use them again as needed.

Excellent care in packing, quiet, efficient. Asked when there was any doubt. Very smart in loading the truck. Worked until it was done - almost midnight. All this the day after they were first contacted. No complaint about cost either.

One of the best moves I have used in Seattle/Redmond in past years. At last moment we had some issue with elevators in our building and their team had already started but they fully cooperated and rescheduled the time and post ponded by 2 hours. The guys were very professional and did a great job in packing our stuff properly before loading on the truck. I would definitely recommend them and they are the best in terms of price.

The thought of moving after 20 years in our home was daunting. I hired Streamline Seattle after a friend recommended their services. Alex was truly a life saver during a very overwhelming and stressful time. Her upbeat, 'we can do it' personality shone through during the difficult times of packing up boxes, donating items and getting reorganized in a new space. I have subsequently had Alex back to my home to help me stay on track of being organized. I am truly feeling settling in. She has shared many insights and tips on simplifying that I have more time and less frustration in my life. I know where to find things! Highly recommend!

I got a full days work for a little less than i had anticipated spending. I'll definitely be calling these folks, the next time i need two big guys and a truck.

The movers at AmerApex Moving could not have done a better job moving our belongings over 2,000 miles away. The crew was on time, polite, very careful, and kept the move fun and in good spirits. Nothing was damaged and the price did not budge a penny. Thank you again for making my move across country stress free. I will be recommending AmerApex Moving to all my friends and family!

My movers just left and requested a review as quickly as possible. I assured them that I would provide then with a 10 out of 5 star rating. Most importantly, the young men were respectful to my husband and I. I am 67 years old so I was on the young men from start to finish - making sure they were respectful of my belongings and home. They wrapped all of my furniture and assisting with packing items that were not packed upon their arrival. I did notice a small hole in the wall at the pick up address. Tight corners so I did not complain. But I did want them to know that I noticed. Other than that, my belongings arrived in great shape. I will recommend to my friend Margaret who will be moving in about 2 weeks. I informed her to request Mark and Stephen. Thanks again for your hard work. Spend your tip wisely.

Express Movers are the best movers ever!! Here’s the story: Learned I was moving from Seattle on Wednesday before Labor Day. Had to be moved by Sunday. Searched for a mover who would take the job with such short notice and at a reasonable fee. Checked the BBB, and other review sites and found Express Movers. I explained to the owner that I had a LOT of stuff to pack and move. I was unable to help with the move as I had suffered a compression fractured vertebrae. She was able to schedule the move to take place over two days, Friday and Saturday. She gave me a quote that was within my price range. And, she locked the bid so that I would not be faced with additional costs. Come Friday Express Movers showed up on time with the contract that matched the bid. Three men worked for 12 hours and a fourth for 6 hours to do the packing and loading of everything into the truck. All of the men were professional, organized, courteous and not one of them complained about the amount of work to be done. I especially appreciated Vaughn’s (the supervisor), and his brother Vaughnito’s friendly attitudes. When they were done I drove 120 miles to my new home while the movers stored the truck in a secure lot overnight. Saturday two of the movers drove stop-and-go on I-5 for hours because of the holiday traffic. When they arrived they unloaded everything into two storage spaces. Once again they went beyond what any reasonable person would have expected and made the move painless for me. Express Movers got the job done beautifully despite: • the late notice • the huge amount of stuff to pack, load, and move • my inability to help • the distance they had to drive through terrible traffic • and the low bid they gave me Express Movers went above and beyond anything I could have expected. The entire move became a hassle free experience for me. When you need to move and want the very best hire Express Movers!! I recommend them wholeheartedly with no reservations!! You will never regret it!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
