Andreanna was great to work with and I'm so glad I chose to go with her. I interviewed many stylists in the area and she was by far the best rate and also the best connection with my personality. She listened to me and focused on what was important. She made me feel much less anxious about the entire clothes-buying experience and even made it fun! She got me to try a few things I would never have picked out on my own and I ended up loving. Shopping was a breeze because she quickly found the right size on the rack (it always takes me forever to find the smalls, she went right to them!). She also made the process faster by knowing if I needed a smaller size or if the one I tried on was correct (I always need to try the smaller size on before I buy it, but she knew right away the correct fit!) She taught me what was making me uncomfortable with my old wardrobe, so now I can make my own choices moving further. Though I know she will always be there via email to help me again! I totally recommend working with Andreanna, you won't be disappointed!

I have been working with Carolyne for a year and a half now. From the beginning she really understood my style and also found great options to compliment my figure. She always hits the mark on finding pieces that I am looking for and in contrast to other stylists I have worked, with she really helps you to style the pieces you pick. She is great at working within your budget and she always suggests using pieces you already have rather than just making you buy new things. She is never pushy and is really easy to work with. I can't say enough great things about Carolyne!

After a brief meeting in which we discussed what I was looking for she took a look at my jewelry and closet to get a sense of my "style" and then we did a shopping run. I HATE shopping, particularly for clothes. She made it so easy and enjoyable! I tried on things that I would never have considered, and they really worked. I felt comfortable. She set up snacks and water. Had a ton of clothes there to try initially. I'll do another session in the spring, since this winter session was so successful. I overhauled my professional wardrobe, and I've never gotten so many compliments.

Catherine Keers of My Seattle Stylist is outstanding. She has given me my fullest confidence as a professional. I first worked with Catherine on a photoshoot for a model and the clothing she chose to use completely complimented the model and the end result was absolutely fantastic! I decided to hire Catherine as my personal stylist to help me get a more professional look for my own clients. She got my style down to the T! I now feel extremely confident and know that I'm wearing all the correct items! I cannot wait to work with Catherine again. She's afforadable, gorgeous, well spoken and the key to any one persons look. Thanks Catherine!

I was in a total wardrobe/fashion funk when Christine was recommended to me. Time with her has been life changing! She has helped me completely rethink and rework my wardrobe to the point where I not only feel more confident in my day to day, but getting dressed in the morning is a more enjoyable, easier experience (no more staring blankly at my clothes thinking "I have nothing to wear.") I highly recommend her - a worthwhile investment!

I recommend working with Susan to update your wardrobe. She took the time to get to know me and understand what I wanted (questionnaire, phone call and in-person meeting). I sought her service after a year of purging old, tired clothes - I needed new work clothes but couldn’t find brands or styles that I liked. After several bouts of shopping (on line and at the mall) my closet was sparse. I felt comfortable with Susan and her assistant, Eric, from the beginning. They know fashion and how to shop for discounts. I had a specific budget target and they met it right on. My husband came to the fitting with me and they included him in the process. Many of the clothes I selected are things I would not have tried on at a store but they work very well. We left with several bags filled with new clothes and all within my budget. Now I know better where to shop and what to look for.

I was nervous about my photo shoot for my new album until Sarah Ward came on board as stylist. Fashion is not really my forte so Sarah helped me find pieces that were right for me, right for the album, and right for the camera. And all of this on a budget too! I like that Sarah focuses on finding pieces that fit not only your body and coloring, but also who you are as a person. I felt totally comfortable shopping with Sarah because I knew she had taken the time to understand me. She was a lifesaver.

Alexis styled my closet and 17 bags to Goodwill later...I am stylin! Alexis helped me weed through my closet assessing my style, providing feedback on what she thought worked and what didn't. Her engagement helped me get rid of some old looks I was hanging on to and provided me with the right wardrobe for work and play. Alexis was on time, easy to work with, and has a fantastic sense of fashion and style for all ages! This was the best present I ever gave myself! Highly Recommend her services.

This, quite honestly, was the best investment I have made in myself in my life that I can recall. It all started because I went on a date with someone who told me "if you dressed better, you'd be a real catch" (ouch!). That person didn't get a second date from me but did wake me up to the fact that I needed style help because I had no idea what I was doing. I also didn't really have the patience or interest to figure it out on my own. A friend recommended Styled Seattle, and I worked with Sherri. The best true compliment I can give is that the whole service is BOTH a super professional organization (two offices, electronic invoicing, etc) AND a totally personal human-to-human experience. Sherri came to my house, we spent about 5 hours together--um, not that long when you figure I got a cleaned out closet and a whole new wardrobe out of it. She is an expert who knows when to explain Why something looks good and give instruction, just as she knows when to say "Just trust me." I spent about $1,500 on clothes and about $600 on service. All in all, it was a $2,000 project, but I'm already planning to do again in the fall. Just like any professional work, it's smart to go with the best.

Audrey Hepburn... Breakfast at Tiffanys... an upcoming semi-formal occasion caused me to want to emulate Audrey's elegant style with my hair and makeup. Aylah's first words in her Thumbtack introduction were " I looove Audrey Hepburn!.." And I knew instantly I found the perfect person to bring out the "glam" in me! During the two hours she set aside for the transformation we chatted and I sipped tea and nibbled on cookies while she painstakingly applied thirty-eight bobby pins, matte foundation and contouring, brow pencil, two new eyelashes, custom-colored lipstick, and the requisite misting of hairspray. One tiara later, I was propelled into the world of little black party dresses, jewels, and opera gloves. The night was magical, and I have Aylah to thank for a timeless look that turned heads. She is an experienced, talented stylist, sensitive to the goals of her client. I had a delightful experience and hope to visit her again soon!

Ms. Strobel has excellent taste. Her many years of expertise in art and design make her the perfect candidate for creative design projects for any environment - from production staging, business staging and of course home design, she is the best. I've had the pleasure of working with her for years and she always brings out the very best in whatever space she is styling. With an nod toward your personal style and a touch of modernity, she is miles ahead of the average stylist design curve. Additionally, she is an absolute pleasure to work with. I can't say enough good things about her. Highly recommended!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I find a personal stylist?

To find a fashion consultant, start by browsing portfolios online. Styling is a visual art, so finding a fashion consultant who fits the style you desire is key. Great personal stylists aren’t confined to one style, but if you’re seeking a hipper, fashion-forward vibe, you’d do well to find someone with a modern portfolio, while a fashion consultant with a consistently refined style could be a better fit if you’d prefer a more conservative look. Reading reviews is also helpful for learning more about the fashion consultant. Research their training, background and years of experience. After reviewing websites and Instagram accounts, meet with the stylist in person to learn how well they fit your personality; some fashion consultants offer a free phone consultation prior to hiring. Before hiring, make sure you clearly understand their terms of service and payment.

    What do image consultants do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion, such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot. The consultant will recommend clothing, hair and makeup to suit the occasion either using either what the client owns or taking a targeted shopping trip. For a complete fashion consultation, the image consultant will assess your wardrobe, your lifestyle, and what you hope to present to the world, and will then determine the best colors, styles and cuts for you. You can get help streamlining your professional appearance, adjusting your style after a change in body size, solidifying a new look, or finding clothing to fit one area of your life like work or weekends. Image consultants also provide closet edits, going through your clothing and paring out what isn’t right for the look you’re trying to achieve. Personal shopping is another service that image consultants provide. After an image assessment, they can either shop with you or shop on your behalf to find you key pieces you need.

    What is a fashion consultant?

A fashion consultant is a paid professional who will advise you on what to wear and how to wear it to fit your desired lifestyle or career goals. A fashion consultant can provide many services including personal shopping, closet audits, beauty consultations, style consultations and ongoing seasonal services. A fashion consultant often has a design or fashion background (although this is not required) and an innate sense of style. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the colors, cuts and designs we think suit us. A fashion consultant comes in with fresh eyes and provides constructive feedback to guide your style choices.

During your initial meeting, your fashion consultant will take stock of your current clothing selection and learn what you hope to achieve. They’ll identify core wardrobe pieces you need, as well as advise you how to wear items together. Many consultants create style lookbooks for their clients explaining things like exactly which shoes to wear with what pants and how to accessorize each look. Fashion consultants are a great option for people who are updating their style due to age, career changes or body changes, or who are just ready for a new look and feel. Most fashion consultants charge by the hour, with some offering packages and others working from a retainer.

    What is a personal shopper?

Personal shoppers take the pain out of having good fashion. Personal shoppers are paid professionals who work with women, men or children who need style assistance. If you are stuck in a fashion rut, are unsure how to dress in a way that flatters your body, need to revamp your image, or want a more professional career look, personal shoppers can help. Personal shoppers identify the look their client wants to achieve and purchase the necessary clothing and accessories to achieve it. The process often begins with an initial consultation with the client to understand their style goals. This consultation may include a closet “audit,” an assessment of the client’s current wardrobe to see what items can be eliminated and what must be purchased to achieve the desired style.

The client and the personal shopper can shop together, selecting items as a team. The personal shopper may also shop on behalf of the client, then bring all items to the client for a final decision. A third option is pre-shopping, where the personal shopper reaches the store(s) ahead of the client and sets aside clothing for the client to try on, expediting the whole process — a win for anyone who hates spending time in the mall. Personal shoppers can also be hired for one-time events such as weddings, vacations or birthdays. You can also enlist a personal shopper to do your gift shopping for you. Overall, a personal shopper is an investment in making good style choices.
