About
I’m Eugene, owner of MoDecks, a Kirkland-based deck builder serving Bellevue and communities throughout the Eastside. I’ve been building decks in the area since 2019 and bring more than 15 years of hands-on construction experience to every project. One thing I do differently is inspect the structure before recommending new decking. I check the framing, footings, ledger connection, flashing, and drainage because in the Pacific Northwest, some of the most serious damage often starts where homeowners can’t see it. Sometimes the existing structure is still in good condition and resurfacing is all that’s needed. Other times, we uncover moisture damage that should be addressed before new boards are installed. Either way, I explain what I find, show you photos, and provide a clear written estimate so you can make an informed decision. For larger projects, we can prepare 3D designs and coordinate structural engineering, permits, and HOA approvals when needed. We work with composite and PVC decking from TimberTech, AZEK, and Trex, as well as Western Red Cedar, following applicable building codes and manufacturer installation requirements. I stay personally involved from the initial consultation through the final walkthrough. Our crew respects your property, keeps the work area organized, and cleans up when the project is complete. MoDecks is licensed, bonded, and insured in Washington. Our workmanship is backed by a written 3-year labor warranty. Built Once. Built Right.

About a month ago, after a heavy rain, we saw a dark spot on the ceiling in our living room below the balcony. At first we hoped it was nothing, but the spot got bigger. We also had water sitting in a few places on the balcony, so we knew there was a leak somewhere. Eugene came out, found the problem, and explained what needed to be done. His crew removed the old surface, replaced all the plywood, redid the flashing, and installed a new waterproof membrane. They did a great job. I really like the color of the new surface and the wood pattern. It almost looks like real deck boards. We’re glad we got everything fixed before the fall rain starts and would definitely recommend MoDecks.

We hired MoDecks to refinish our wood deck in Kirkland and are really happy with how it came out. The deck was pretty worn and definitely needed some attention. The crew helped us move the patio furniture and grill off the deck before starting. They spent almost two full days just sanding and prepping the wood, which I honestly didn’t expect, but it made a big difference. After that they applied two coats of stain and let everything dry properly before putting our furniture and grill back. The deck looks so much better now and the wood has its color back. Eugene kept us updated throughout the job and the crew was careful around the house and cleaned up when they were done. Really good experience with MoDecks and I’d use them again for deck work.

We’re in Kirkland, expecting our first baby this fall, and our old deck was honestly making us nervous — soft boards, a railing that moved when you leaned on it. We wanted it safe before the baby comes. Eugene came out, went under the deck and checked the framing before quoting anything, and told us straight what had to go and what was still fine. MoDecks rebuilt the deck and stairs in composite with new railings and stair lights, and now it’s rock solid — no wobble, no soft spots, and the lights make the steps easy to see at night. Huge peace of mind for us. The crew was on time and left the yard clean every day. If you’re on the Eastside and your deck feels sketchy, call these guys.

Our deck and railings had faded quite a bit and were starting to look old. We contacted MoDecks, and Eugene explained that the wood could be sanded and restored instead of replaced. He was easy to talk to and answered all our questions. The crew sanded the deck boards, handrails, and all the balusters before refinishing everything. There are a lot of small areas in our railings, but they took their time and the finish came out even. The color and wood grain look great again, and the whole deck looks so much better. We’re very happy we decided to refinish it. We would definitely work with Eugene and MoDecks again.

Thank you, Elizabeth! This was definitely a challenging project that required a lot of patience and careful work. We never want to rush a job just to finish sooner—doing it properly and delivering a result we can stand behind is more important to us. We’re really glad you’re happy with how everything turned out, and we truly appreciate your trust in our team.

We had an older deck that was still usable, but it looked tired, and the covered section never really felt finished. We wanted something cleaner and more modern that we could enjoy without constantly worrying about maintenance. We hired MoDecks for our deck project on the Eastside, and we’re very happy with how everything turned out. They installed new TimberTech decking and black cable railings, and also repaired and painted the soffit under the covered area. The cable railing really opened up the view, and the whole deck feels like a completely different space now. One thing that really stood out was how willing the crew was to help with the smaller details. I asked if they could mount our TV on the wall while they were there, and they did it at no extra charge. They didn’t make a big deal about it—they just took care of it, which I really appreciated. Eugene kept us updated and made sure everything came together the way we wanted. We’ve already been spending much more time outside, and the deck finally feels like part of the home. I would definitely recommend MoDecks to anyone looking for a good deck contractor around Seattle or the Eastside.
