Stephen's work of installing a heavy wood door with custom trim and ironwork into a old home was fantastic. He was friendly, asked for my preferences as he worked, and did a great job.

I had a very positive experience - Jarrod was excellent. He mounted my TV above the fireplace for a very reasonable price and nailed it. The job required custom work (frame work for the fireplace niche) and he was methodical, detailed, thorough, listened to what I had in mind and kept me informed every step of the way. He was very responsive from the start to finish - a true professional who knew what he was doing. He also helped me with cable management and the end result was a nice clean look. I would highly recommend him to anyone. Thank you Jarrod!

Seghei was able to come out to my Kirkland home a few hours after we made contact on a weekday, gave me a fair quote for the job -- framing in a pre-hung door into a finished entryway -- and completed the work that same evening. I had lumber and door, he had all his own tools (including table saw) as well as screws, etc. Though English is not his primary language he was very communicative in asking my preferences (e.g. leaving room for drywall, centering the door in opening vs. to one side) and letting me know the door would be level but the wall he was framing against was not. The door is indeed level and solid, great job and value.

Mogi & his company was great and very helpful with my bathroom remodeling goal. They did a lot of work on my bathroom. They moved & added plumbing. They relocated my bathtub, vanity, & door. They put tiles and made a custom vanity table in one of my bathroom closets. I felt he really wanted the job to be done well. I also felt they were knowledgeable about plumbing & electrical work. I am looking forward to continuing to work with this company. Thank you.

Project is complete. My project consisted of 4 double wood French style door jams, and 1 single wood French style door jam going into my courtyard that was rotting due to weather elements and rain over 13 years. I also had an additional garage entry door jam to be fixed as well. The jams needed to be sanded and repaired, even replaced in some areas with new wood. The thresholds were all replaced as well. Then sanded to match, caulked and painted. It was a delicate process to match the existing door and look of the custom home, as well as the surrounding stucco. The project took a total of 8 working days, 6 of which Bob had the help of his buddy Rick. I will upload before and after photos. I am more than happy with the outcome. The materials did not cost much, it is Bob's time and skill that was the main costs involved in the project. Well worth the outcome and quality. Thank you Bob & Rick!

I have nothing but great things to say about this company. We worked with Dan, he was so prompt to all our meeting. He was not at all pushy (unlike most salesman, we met with 5 companies) He came out to our house to estimate the job, our job involved replacing and resizing windows and doors, he gave us a quote within 2 days (just as he said he would). The quote was very reasonable and if Dan's mannerism, courteousness and discipline was any indication of the company values, we knew we could trust this company and the work. As soon as we finalized they scheduled our job for 5 weeks out (it takes that long for custom windows and doors). Since it was a rather large job they sent out 2 crews. Dan was there everyday, supervising the crew. Within 4 days they wrapped up everything, left the house clean and no disruption to our routine. We did notice some problem with one of the doors, Dan quickly took pictures and videos and sent it out to Milgard (windows and door provider). They have scheduled a meeting with us to go over if any issues. We are extremely happy with the end to end service!

Painted the exterior of my house for the price quoted and in a very reasonable amount of time. My only concern is that I was told to get 15 gallons of paint and a considerable amount of it went unused. Other than that I would recommend this painter.

My garage door opener went out & I called John. He said he was just getting off the freeway & said he could be at my place in 10 minutes. He arrived just like he said discovered the problem. We went to the hardware store & a hour & a half later I was back in business. I told John we didn't have to do it that evening & was willing to set up an appointment as I knew he had worked all day. John asked, but wouldn't I like it done then? Who could argue with that? As always I am more than pleased & continue to use Ready Remodel.

Ivan was amazing and he did an awesome job on installing all three of our closetmaid impression closet system. We were really impressed with him and how quick he put them all together. Not also was he efficient but the quality of his work was superb. We will be hiring him again once we receive our custom doors.

We have used this handyman service several times over the last years. Each of the technicians has been professional and their work was fantastic. The office staff is easy to reach to answer questions and schedule appointments. We have used this service for minor items (replacing some fixtures) to larger items (repairing a chimney and creating and installing custom cabinetry for our laundry room). The Handyman Seattle is absolutely our go-to provider and we will never use anyone else.

My husband and I couldn't have imagined how wonderful the job TJ and Marvin did for us!! We hired them to - pretty much gut our backyard and deck - remodeling everything for us. They treated or job as if it was their own home. It was so much more than what we hoped for. I would - in a heartbeat - recommend them to anyone. The beautiful work they did for us will be enjoyed for years to come. They leveled our backyard, planted new sod, installed all new fencing, built patio with a fire pit. They tore down and built a new, enlarged deck that wraps around the side of our house. They took out our bedroom window and installed sliding doors to the new deck which looks out onto a beautiful wetland. They installed a new ceiling fan. When we moved into our house 5 years ago, our furnace was in one of our bathrooms. Due to the design of the bathroom, there was no way to cover the opening to the furnace - leaving it an eye sore. They took our the door to the bathroom and installed a smaller door - leaving them room to install a beautiful - barn door style door - closing the opening to the furnace. In the future, any remodeling to our home will be easy, all we'll do is call TJ and Marvin!! If I could, I'd give them 6 plus stars!!

Wow, where to begin? Cliff was amazing from the start by responding to my request within an hour and was able to stop by my house within a few days to assess my project. I had a broad spectrum of ideas and he was extremely helpful in guiding me to realistic but amazing options. He spent quality time looking at my home and hearing me out .. and then put together a quote quite a bit lower than the other contractor. He even explained it to me in detail. Cliff was able to work my rather large project into his schedule fairly soon. There were several projects he got done for me. The big one was reorganizing a bathroom and a half bath that were oddly situated .. creating an amazing master bathroom. He had to remove a wall, remove tub/toilets/sinks/vanities and then start over. I now have a beautiful new bathroom with a luxurious vibe. He paid attention to the small details too .. getting the mirror just the right height (as a tall lady that is very important). The next big project was combining 2 smaller bedrooms into a large master suite and creating a master walk in closet. He removed a wall here as well and had to rewire outlets, move lights, add a support beam. Also, adding a custom walk in closet one only dreams about. He was very open to my own ideas of what I wanted and even improved on those ideas. He kept me informed every step of the way and moved quickly but efficiently. There were some "old house" issues he was able to assess and help me out as well. I had planned on these (noted to me at the home inspection when I purchased the house) but Cliff added these necessary fixes into the plans .. the poor guy had to get up into the roof and under the house so many times. There were some electrical wiring issues, fuser box had some issues and some exterior items. Previous owners had done some very inventive repairs that I am now paying for .. thankfully Cliff is knowledgeable and provided quality work at great prices. He was also patient with my many "add ons" such as removing an oven vent to replace it with a microwave .. he is so good I asked him to pick it out as I trusted his judgement. An oddly placed hall closet door was switched from the living room side to the hallway, all doors were replaced, the entire house was painted, windows cleaned (inside and out) and basically anything I asked he has the talent and knowledge to do. Carpentry, electrical, plumbing, construction, design, ect .. such so much. I have several more projects I will be booking with him ... a laundry room refresh, a kitchen remodel and some exterior issues. The most amazing thing is how easy Cliff is to work with. He is communicative, informative, funny and experienced. Simply a gem of a find. I can't speak highly enough of Cliff and literally had no project on my mind that he could not do. This guy is one in a million

I hired Derek to perform a remodel to open up a closet area and frame a new door way to my garage and then wall off the existing door way to my garage. Derek and his team did an amazing job creating the new entrance, closing off the old one, finishing the drywall and making it ready to paint. The quality of the work was excellent and during the work they would always put floor paper down and plastic coverings surrounding the work area in order to keep my house as clean as possible. Derek also went out of his way to make sure I got the proper finishing trim that matched the existing trim in my house. Derek and his team was always very courteous, and Derek is a perfectionist, always making minor corrections and taking an extra effort to make sure things looked just right and making sure my wife and I were fully satisfied with the work. I would certainly hire Derek again for another project.

I would definitely recommend Brian and his team at Craftsman Construction. I now come home everyday to my dream Kitchen! I have worked with other contractors in the past and I have to admit- we were a little scared to undergo such a big project, but from our first meeting to the very end Brian made us feel very much at ease. The quality workmanship, professionalism, and time on the project was awesome. Brian was able to see our vision and make it into a reality. His experience was also a big help in directing us on ideas that would add to our homes resale value but also stay within our budget. Aside from their customer service, the quality and finish work once the project was complete blew me away. We couldn't be happier! Thank you Brian!!

We needed custom screens for our house and Bobby did a great job. He quoted a fair price, came and measured, returned with the screens even sooner than promised and when the cost was less than anticipated he passed the savings on to us with a lower end price. We highly recommend Word Works Construction!

Mike designed and built a custom Fireplace mantel for us. Mike's has great attention to detail and his workmanship is fantastic. He did much of the final build and assembly in our house and he was very professional. He place drop cloths down to protect things and clean up after his work. We would definitely use MKS again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
