We hired Proman Services for painting, pressure washing, cleaning gutters and window cleaning at a rental house we own. Did an amazing job, easy to work with and did in a timely manor. We are currently working with them on more things at our home that need to be done. Highly recommend them!

Jordan was very helpful, first he had a call with me and patiently reviewed all the issues making suggestions. I hired him for a couple of fixes in my home (door knob and sliding door adjustments). He was on time, did a pretty good job. Overall I am happy with his work and would recommend him.

Jason responded within minutes to the post on Thumbtack and his responses were just as quick after I selected him for the dishwasher installation. He had to come twice to my home because the first dishwasher has damage and needed to be exchanged at the store. We got the replacement the same day and Jason was quick to respond to a voicemail requesting him to come back the same day to finish the installation. He did not charge anything extra for the extra trip. Very satisfied with the speed and quality of the work.

Just another great review for Amin. I had a very pleasant experience with him, and I was very impressed with his work. He is one of those people every home owner should know about. He initially came in to install our dishwasher and he completed that job in just a few minutes. Our dishwasher installation was on a sloped floor and required special installation. He is very skillful, knows how to use all his tools properly and how to do things right. He does everything fast and with top grade quality. I hired him again for more work later - plumbing fixture and valve replacement, door sweep installation, caulking etc. All the work done with great quality. Thank you very much for your service Amin, keep up the great work.

Axel was amazing! We called him for three minor issues and found not only the basis of the problem but very reasonable remedies. He replaced an ancient bathroom sink, repair bedroom closet and blinds. We appreciate his professionalism, quickness and thoroughness. He was excellent to work with and look forward to working with him again in the future.

Daniel was very responsive coming out and bidding. Put me on his schedule with a firm date and time for completion. I needed to repair/replace the siding and he had someone come complete the job and still made the completion date. The only ding against his workers I had was they broke some rhodies and hydrangea and did not tell me. One of the hose hangers was damaged and needed to be put back on properly. Bid was neither the highest I got or the lowest, but the reputation is good. Comes on time and completes on time for reasonable price.

He helped me finish a project that had been left incomplete by a previous handyman. The project involved ripping out bad drywall work and re-doing it. I look forward to having him come back to finish the exterior work around the new window.

Steve did a fine job of restoring our 1892 home's bay window to it's original look and design. His thoughtful deliberation, attention to detail and his desire to use original parts when possible and recreating the weather beaten or missing parts where necessary was just what we were looking for. His knowledge of "ancient" carpentry; the hows and whys of it's implementation is impressive. And he offered excellent suggestions. I would recommend him to anyone looking for quality craftsmanship. Oh yeah..turns out he can carry a tune pretty good too. Jim & Amy Furlong 7/20/16

Enrique is a "Jack of all Trades". He was contracted to paint the exterior of the house. Before all work had been completed he had also re-roofed the flat roof of the house addition, replaced the water tank, repaired loose hanging gutters and did some minor drywall repair. Too, he noticed some incidental items that needed addressing. He corrected these at no additional charge. He was prompt and completed all work in an agreed upon time frame. I highly recommend him.

He was available by phone and was more than happy to address my concerns and answer any questions I had. I would recommend this company. They handle several different types of jobs

My husband and I couldn't have imagined how wonderful the job TJ and Marvin did for us!! We hired them to - pretty much gut our backyard and deck - remodeling everything for us. They treated or job as if it was their own home. It was so much more than what we hoped for. I would - in a heartbeat - recommend them to anyone. The beautiful work they did for us will be enjoyed for years to come. They leveled our backyard, planted new sod, installed all new fencing, built patio with a fire pit. They tore down and built a new, enlarged deck that wraps around the side of our house. They took out our bedroom window and installed sliding doors to the new deck which looks out onto a beautiful wetland. They installed a new ceiling fan. When we moved into our house 5 years ago, our furnace was in one of our bathrooms. Due to the design of the bathroom, there was no way to cover the opening to the furnace - leaving it an eye sore. They took our the door to the bathroom and installed a smaller door - leaving them room to install a beautiful - barn door style door - closing the opening to the furnace. In the future, any remodeling to our home will be easy, all we'll do is call TJ and Marvin!! If I could, I'd give them 6 plus stars!!

I'm not one to write reviews unless the service is something so stellar that it warrants taking the time to write one that might be useful to others. This is definitely one of those cases and I want to applaud the work done by R&L Windows. There was a terrible windstorm that hit the Puget Sound about a week ago that caused much of the north Seattle area to lose power. There were also downed trees and one of those trees just happened to be in the green belt behind my rental home. It came down the side of the house and completely destroyed the window on the main floor. It was a Sunday when I found out about the damage and I was completely devastated knowing that I had tenants moving into the home in 2 weeks. It was also on the main floor which caused me to have a lot of anxiety about the security of the home. I was on Angie's List for about an hour contacting contractors for expedited window replacement and most places would tell me that the window would not arrive for another 4-6 weeks, a timeline that I found unacceptable given my particular circumstances. After nearly giving up for the night, I received an e-mail from Tasha asking about the dimensions of the window (reminder, it's Sunday). I sent over pictures and she quickly (within an hour) responded with what needed to be replaced and an estimate of the work. She was very cognizant of the time frame I was trying to meet as well as the security issue and was also willing to board of the window if we had to wait for the window to arrive. She went out to the property next day, measured the window, confirmed it was a stock size that could be installed the next day (not 2 weeks, not 4 weeks etc from other quotes I received). Tasha and her team did an excellent job with installation, got the color right without me confirming and did it so quickly! From first contact to installation and final billing, I would absolutely highly recommend R&L Windows!

Tony and his crew installed several windows and a new roof for me. Their work was excellent. Tony kept me informed all along the way and made sure that everything was just the way I wanted it. When they left, everything was cleaned up and neat. We had one small issue which Tony came back and made right.

Robbie did work for us at two houses. He worked to design a shed to facilitate noise suppression of heat pump installed at a relative's home. What was impressive about that job was not only his work to identify the most effective materials, but his staging of the build and communication/coordination with us at key points to allow for adjustments as needed. He also remodeled/rebuilt our backyard deck and front porch. His selection of wood and design of the porch and deck/gates is artistic and beautifully constructed -- and it's now a space that we occupy regularly. His schedule projections were accurate, and he completed the work in a timely manner. We have enjoyed working with Robbie - and very much appreciate his skills. We will be contracting with him for interior work for our next project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
