Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Multi-cultural, musical and interactive are the words most often used to describe my style. I am theatrical but can also be intimate. I enjoy sharing languages from several African dialects, a bit of French, Spanish, Chinese, Hawaiian (and more) either through songs or spoken word within a story. I have a large repertoire of stories that I have internalized and made my own giving me a solid base and a great versatility as a performer. I attend meetings of my local storytelling group as well as attending festivals to continually gather inspiration. Meeting people is the best part of this job. I often learn as much from an audience as I have given. I enjoy the variety of each job being a new challenge with a new audience to share with. Research, reading and other preparations for this work are continual and I am delighted to find the connections between a story in one culture and another or the story within the story. There are unlimited possibilities for growth; always a new twist or turn in telling a familiar story, and a never ending supply of stories yet to know. Gaining insights of "walking in another person's shoes" by telling someone else's story opens my heart and fills me with compassion.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Decide whether the primary function of the storyteller is for entertainment or education. Of course great storytellers have both qualities, but being clear about who the audience is and what the event is can help the storyteller know if this is the type of venue that they feel comfortable with. External factors such as noise, other activities going on within this event and scheduling can make a huge difference. Logistical information on things like where the artists park their cars, and who will meet and greet them can help to ease the jitters of a performing artist entering a new venue.
