Tina Cotterill is well versed in strength training techniques (which I need!) as well as instruction toward total well-being. She has helped me during the past year to become stronger physically and to help me food plan. I am almost 70 years of age, and find the workouts that she structures for me exactly what I need to live long and prosper! She's also unbelievably inexpensive and cheerfully drives to my home every week! I highly recommend Tina Cotterill to anyone of any age who has decided to live a healthier life style.

I was a 70 year old active but reduced range of motion man. Anthony immediately spotted old injury problems in an assessment and started a program that has changed my physical life: much more flexible, stronger, and younger. 60 and going down.

Working with Hannah has been a life changing experience. As an experienced trainer, she has the ability to train a wide range of fitness levels. In my case, I am a middle aged person that started from ground zero. I have come understand that results are not immediate but require time, patience, and consistency. Hannah has been a perfect guide and has made sure that my fitness journey has been injury free. She gives you 110% and makes sure that that one's form and muscle engagement are done properly. I highly recommend her services.

Here’s a small background about myself to provide a little extra validity to my review on Balance Performance Fitness: I am a certified Athletic Trainer and am familiar with body mechanics, injury prevention, nutrition, health & wellness, exercise, etc. Ben worked with me consistently for about two months - still is involved with my workout routines whenever a little extra help is needed. Anyways, for those of you who are looking for a personal trainer, I highly recommend choosing Balance Performance Fitness to work with Ben. Overall he is a great coach who focuses on what your individual needs are specifically. He is able to challenge you in a positive way, and give you direct answers/reasons to any questions you have concerning your health or goals. Unlike other personal trainers that I’ve worked with where they either talk in circles, or use the same workout plan for every client; Ben strives in building a good rapport with you to be sure he is able to meet your expectations on your personal fitness goals. My experience having Ben as a coach was phenomenal. I have always struggled with putting in the work to strengthen my lower body - wether it was just pure lack of focus, no motivation, and just out of ideas for workouts that really blasted my muscles. While working with Ben I was able to overcome all of that and hit new PR’s (personal records) in all aspects. From front squat, backsquat. Deadlifts, to bench press, pull-ups etc. you name it. I have been the strongest I have ever been after just having Ben as my coach for two months, pushing me and finding ways to target my specific goals. So again, if you want to hit your fitness goals and have been struggling with them, I suggest just take that next step and at least talk to Ben to see if he will be a good fit for you. One word of advice though, if you do hire him, be sure you are ready to put in the work. There are no such thing as ‘excuses’ when it comes down to training with Ben and I think that is what makes him a remarkable personal trainer.

Shannon was a joy to work with and incredibly supportive. She was always positive and when I didn't succeed in the ways I wanted, she helped me focus on what I did do well. She then gave me strategies to continue working on my struggles. She has a wealthy of information in so many aspects of overall health. (nutrition, stress reduction, exercise, physiology) Shannon helped me figure out what I wanted to focus on and she gave me weekly action steps. This allowed me to make life-style changes in baby steps, so I wouldn't be overwhelmed trying to make the new me in a day. She helped me figure out recipes, exercises, motivation techniques, breathing exercises and ways to pay attention to what and how I was eating. I also figured out that I needed to declutter my physical space, so I could focus on the health of myself and my family. If you want to make life changes, Shannon has a gift for helping you do that with her amazing, positive attitude.

When I made the decision to hire a life coach, I looked and met with several different people. The moment I met Lisa, I knew she was meant for me. I was at a point in my life where I felt stuck, confused and didn't know how to move forward. She not only gave me the tools to manage all the things going on in my life but she also held me accountable and really supported me in reaching my goals in the time I spent with her. She was there for me whenever I needed her and I always walked away from a meeting with her feeling empowered. Hiring her was one of the best things I've done for myself so if you're looking for some guidance or clarity in your life, hire Lisa. She's amazing and I've never been in a better place than I am right now. I always had it in me but she showed me the way and I'm forever thankful.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

    What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

    Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
