I had been procrastinating on filing for bankruptcy for a long time. I have used Thumbtack before and decided to try it again. Ashley was super fast with a response and we e-mailed back and forth almost immediately. She told me to let her know if she could match other quotes I received, and was very clear on the benefits of using Start Fresh Northwest. She quoted me a great price that included a partial payment to the court, which made the payment process easier. I felt great about our interactions so I chose her company. I met with her partner Delaina, and she met me at my neighborhood Starbucks twice, once to go over the contract and the 2nd time to do the actual paper work. They are both super flexible and would have done most everything over phone and fax if that is what I wanted. The process was emotional for me, and both Ashley and Delaina were awesome. They responded to my phone calls, e-mails and texts immediately, and made me feel better when I had concerns when other people, not bankruptcy attorneys offered their 2 cents about filing for bankruptcy. We are almost done, with a hearing coming up and I'm relieved it's almost over. I am all about customer service and Fresh Start Northwest totally gets it! It has also been nice working with a company run by women. Lawyers can be intimidating and I often felt like I was talking to a friend when voicing concerns. I never felt like any question was to small or stupid to ask. Use them! You won't regret it!

They are attorneys not Burger King, but they will take your order and accommodate you. They are more like a 4 star restaurant all the service and recommendations in the world, but they don't have a bathroom attendant so they are not a 5 star restaurant, but that is intentional because it would be creepy. Metaphors aside, they will get IT done. Why are you still reading this review, you should have been dialing. Ask for G.

I requested a family law attorney for a quick consultation here on Thumbtack, and Dave replied within less than an hour, on a Friday evening, offering to meet up on the upcoming Sunday. His response was quick, but when I got to his office, our meeting took well over an hour because he wanted to know more information and be very specific with his advice to me. I appreciate it a lot in a professional and experienced attorney, and it was very nice to see how much he cares about his customers and how responsible he is in checking all the information he’s given to be as much accurate with his advice.

As a criminal defense attorney in the same office as Kevin, I have worked side by side with him for over a decade. He is a hard working, creative and dedicated advocate for his clients. I recommend Kevin without hesitation if you need help with a criminal case. As you figure out what is the best course for your case I recommend giving him a call to see if he is a good fit for you.

When my wife and I were considering filing for bankruptcy we met with Steven Palmer at Curtis Casteel and Palmer law firm, he was very knowledgeable and understanding of our situation, he didn’t make us feel bad about our debt or about having to file for bankruptcy which made us feel a lot better about having to make this tough decision and file chapter 7. He also didn’t pressure us at all on filing and retaining him as our attorney, he just laid out our situation we were in and how filing could help us on rebuilding and answered all of our questions we had. Once we retained him as our attorney to file for bankruptcy working with him was probably one of the easiest things I’ve ever done, he responds back to emails and phone calls very promptly even on the weekends via email. He handles creditors still calling you immediately and makes you aware right away of what he said to them and what to look for going forward with that credit on if they continue to call or mail demands. He works very hard for you to make sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible and it definitely did for my wife and I. He even offered to help us with additional things such as reviewing loan offers from banks for when we purchased our first car after the bankruptcy at no charge, which was greatly appreciated and just shows how dedicated he is to making sure that your headed in a good direction after discharge. I would definitely recommend him and his law firm to anyone that is filing or even slightly considering filing for bankruptcy to at least contact him and see what he can do for you and I will be sending anyone I know that’s in the same situation or other types of law they handle to him as well. Thanks again for all the help Steve!!!!

I contacted Chris to revamp my parenting plan. From day one Chris was very transparent about how he was going to help me. Being the father in the case we knew it would be an uphill battle. Chris was spot on with filing motions when we needed to and making sure that during trial the facts came out. I will always reach out to Chris when I am in need of an attorney.

Mr. Foster has been great. He has maintained clear and open communication, and has given me solid advice. He is on top of everything regarding my case. He did not pressure me to hire him, like other attorneys I talked to, and genuinely cared about my case, even when I wasn't yet his client. I would recommend him to anybody.

When I was injured on the job I thought my company would take care of me. I soon found that was far from the truth. When I received the letter from their insurance company stating that all my time off benefits were stopping. I was at a loss at what to do or where to turn. After my first meeting with Laurel Anderson, I knew she had my best interest at heart. They worked really hard for the last 4 1/2 years. She relieved a lot of my stress and worry. Laurel worked hard to have my lost time and wages reinstated and helped guide me through the L&I Process. No matter how big or small your injury is, your employer or claims manager may tell you that you don't need an attorney. Trust me, you'll need someone to help you. Big corporations have attorneys hiding to protect them. You should have WA Workers' Comp Law fighting for you.

I had fired my first attorney, it was a injury "mill" They did nothing for 2 weeks. Ann got right to work and with in days she had settled on the personal property. Great hard working, thoughtful, intelligent work, with still having empathy for the challenges and emotional needs at a crisis time for you in life, when you are not able to make decisions.

Brian Murry handled my divorce and revised will post-divorce. He provided several options for each step that were tailored to my personal situation. He always had sound legal advice, and was able to answer questions. He was efficient with his hours and provided a great value for the fees charged. I came in his office confused and he provided an solid legal path to proceed. Highly recommended for divorce and family law matters.

I have only been a client of theirs for approximately 2 week, they have kept me abreast of every thing that they are doing. I've had other attorneys just sweep me under the rug and not return calls, this is one firm that isn't like that!

Mr. Hendry was even-tempered with occasional doses of humor throughout the 4-hour highly stressful mediation. I don't know how he did it, but we left his office with every one of our issues agreed upon.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

  • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
  • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
  • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
  • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
  • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
  • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.
