Jarrod was fantastic! He mounted our TV and came up with creative solutions to reroute the cables through the drywall so all our devices could be hidden in the closet behind the TV wall. What stood out for me was his attention to detail and his intent to ensure the customers get what they want. Communication was spot on and with a baby in our home he ensured there was not too much dust and whatever was produced was well contained. And he cleaned up very well after he was done. Job took a tad bit longer than we anticipated but Jarrod made sure it was fine and done right! Can't wait to hire him again for other stuff

Axel did a drywall repair job to patch up some holes that were made by an electrician installing a light switch. There were 10 3" diameter holes that needed texturing as well, and he did a flawless job. Definitely will use him again in the future.

He helped me finish a project that had been left incomplete by a previous handyman. The project involved ripping out bad drywall work and re-doing it. I look forward to having him come back to finish the exterior work around the new window.

Jorge responded to my request immediately. He came out the next day & began the drywall repair. Very clean work & trustworthy man, as I had to leave him in my home to do the work while I was working.

We hired Steve to install rough plumbing, a tub, shower door, and drywall and to skim coat 2 textured ceilings to make them smooth. We really appreciated Steve's transparency in his quote, as well as his quality and speed of work. Steve gave us a fair and detailed quote including expected time to finish. Steve and the guys he brought with him worked quickly without compromising quality. We are happy to be hiring Steve to do more work at our house later in the summer.

Jose did a wonderful job patching up a hole in my ceiling. He was punctual, professional and most importantly, he did a great job! His estimate was also affordable, as opposed to a couple of others I had gotten before I found him. Would certainly call Jose if I ever had another drywall issue!

Jaime is meticulous and likes to do the project "right". In the day of contractors that claim they can do things, which they should really not do - Jaime knows his stuff in all things drywall, walls, wall texturing, wall finishing, wall repairs. I hired Jaime to retexturize my walls, finish new drywall (taping, mudding, the works), and patch drywall and retexturize. Because the project was in a condo, there were various restrictions on when work is conducted, keeping the place super tidy (building has dark carpets), getting water from the building bathrooms (water has been turned off for my unit)....Jaime was kind in working around these weird restrictions. And he took out the drywall garbage as well.

Very clear about the price beforehand, showed up the same day (evening) I requested the work, and did a good job covering some holes in the siding made by woodpeckers. They arrived a bit later than estimated, but not enough to warrant docking a star. I would hire them again.

Cedo installed tile for a utility room and bathroom (bathtub, floor), as well as some drywall work and an interior door. He is meticulous and detail-oriented, and I would second someone else's comments that he is a perfectionist. For ex, there is an area of the utility room behind the furnace that is out of sight, and I suggested that he not bother to place tile there, because it was hard to get to. However, he insisted on doing so, because he wanted to do it right. In terms of the bathroom, he did a nice job tiling around the bathtub and window. He took the time to make sure everything looks great. The job took a longer than planned because of some unexpected challenges that were not Cedo's fault. I would definitely hire him again.

Chris and Joey did an incredible job on two of my bedrooms. I recently bought a 106-year-old house that hasn't been maintained much in the last 20 years. Two of the rooms had only wallpaper, and behind that was tongue-in-groove board. They came up with a creative solution for drywalling the rooms. Now the two rooms are ready to be lived in. The drywall job looks fantastic, the walls are smooth and there aren't any imperfections or anything. I will definitely hire them again in the future. I highly recommend them.

Mike's finishing work was done very well and in a timely manner, in a knockdown style in the upstairs area, and a smooth as silk finish in the lower level. Only problem was our shop vac running amuck, sending drywall dust all over. Mike was quick to help remedy that situation. He also charges a reasonable rate for the work he does.

Pedro and his team did a wonderful job with the Inspection tasks we gave him. He was able to squeeze part of the job in to accommodate our timing, problem solved a difficult dry rot solution where several other experienced contractors couldn’t and executed the job on time, quickly, perfectly and left the site tidy. Communication is great, workmanship perfect and easy to work with! He’s on my preferred list! Thanks Pedro!

2.5 days of work was accomplished over a 5-day period. Jesse, the owner, and two workers repaired and repainted the drywall in a few areas, installed new attic stairs, moved a lighting fixture, and tiled a small backsplash. Some appointments were rescheduled by Goodface with notice. The work was of good quality and reasonably priced. There was a bit of difficulty communicating with the workers as English was not their first language, but Jesse checked in daily to ensure everything was running smoothly. The workers cleaned up at the end of each day, but final cleanup was still necessary (and expected) when the job was done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
