Rhythm of The People

Hi! My name is Janu and I've been studying movement, dance, and body awareness practices for over a decade and teaching for the past several years throughout Seattle. My work sits at the intersection of social dance, performance, and personal growth. I've taught House Dance, The Hustle (partner dance), movement foundations, and freestyle development, as well as choreographed for weddings, stage performances, showcases, video projects, and music videos. What I care most about isn't helping people look a certain way—it's helping them feel more comfortable in their own body. Whether you're preparing for a wedding, learning to social dance, working on a performance, or simply trying something new, I meet people where they're at and build from there. Students have shared that they appreciate how welcoming and encouraging my classes feel. I believe learning happens best when people feel safe enough to be curious, make mistakes, explore and also pushed at the right times. My teaching combines clear structure and technical instruction with creativity, musicality, and self-expression. I also share the history and cultural roots behind the dances I teach because I believe honoring where these traditions come from allows for the movement to have actual soul - it matters. Beyond dance, my background includes martial arts, yoga (300hr Yoga Alliance Cert), breathwork, and movement conditioning, which helps me support clients in developing coordination, balance, confidence, body awareness, and overall movement quality. Whether you're stepping onto a dance floor, a stage, or in front of a camera, my goal is simple: help you move with more confidence, more freedom, and more joy.
