Introduction: Offering In-Person and Virtual Lessons! Below is a quick snippet from my website of my musical and teaching background. ~~ Musical Background I've been studying music for 10 years and in 2021 graduated at the top of my class from the University of Washington School of Music where I majored in Guitar Performance, Music Theory, and Music History. Teaching Background I began teaching professionally in 2017, first privately, then as an instructor at Guitar Center Redmond (my hometown) and Guitar Center Lynnwood for three years before founding my own virtual and mobile studio in 2020. At this point, I’ve taught over 100 students (some of whom have been with me for several years!), so I’m confident in my ability to effectively teach people of all ages, levels, and styles. I think one thing that sets me apart as an instructor is that I’m not just passionate about music, I’m passionate about education as an art and science itself. Go check out my Philosophy and Method tab on my website for an overview of how I approach teaching music! ~~ My rate is $50 / 30m, $100 / 60m. I teach lessons at my studio or virtually via Zoom. I'm in the Victory Heights / Pinehurst neighborhood. Get in touch if you have any questions or want to schedule—first lesson is free! Thanks, Austin French

I've been playing on and off casually for years but never made any real progress past strumming through some songs and playing the same 4 chords. I tried to follow books and youtube videos on my own but never really got anywhere. Finally I decided to get serious instruction and I'm glad I went with Austin. His gentle teaching style made me instantly comfortable. I started with the intention of simply learning to do some basic fingerpicking country/folk songs but through his instruction he's brought out a passion for music theory I didn't know that I had! I truly value Austin's flexibility. His expert knowledge is clear but won't bog you down in specifics you don't care about. Our lessons cover everything from transcribing and working through individual songs, to developing my hand position and picking techniques, to basic music theory and music reading, to introductory ear training depending on how I feel or what material we're working on. The different topics keep me interested and excited for my weekly lesson. In the last year I've made exponential improvements in my playing and understanding of music. I'd strongly recommend Austin to anyone ready to make serious improvement in their playing or learn more about "the why" behind what they're playing.

Austin is an amazing instructor! He has a lot of patience and has been really helping me learn the correct posture, hand and finger positions in order to play with ease without hurting my wrist, etc. Austin always spent time to prepare materials that are right for my level and interests, and helped me achieve my goals as a guitar player.

I first started taking lessons with Austin around August of 2020 and am just ending my third month with him now. Entirely online due to COVID. I've been very happy with his teaching. He makes exercises tailored just to me of what I need to work on, is very patient and very helpful. We often go slightly overtime to make sure we finish up whatever we're working on and my playing has drastically improved. If I had any friends looking, I'd happily recommend them to him!

Austin is very organized and has helped me improve by providing structure to my routine. He identifies weak areas quickly and prescribes the right music and exercises for me to fix them, but is also flexible to teach anything I want to focus on. He's an excellent musician while still being approachable and friendly.

Great communicator, and very flexible with scheduling. Is doing a good job of keeping my 11yo daughter interested in learning.
