About
I get to know each of my students individually - whats inspiring or challenging or intimidating to them - and I develop a dynamic lesson plan that steers each student toward their personal goals in the most fun, interesting, and encouraging way possible. Also, I do not believe in natural talent. I think everyone has a shot at being musical and feeling good about it. It just takes practice and mindfulness. Because of this belief, it is very easy for me to be patient and ensure my students are learning at a pace that works for them. I love seeing progress and I love when my students are happy. I like those moments when my clients "get it" - when something clicks and they are able to move past a previous hurdle, wether it be a technique or a musical concept. Sometimes progress is made with practice and sometimes it is made in one single instance.

I've been delighted with my progress since starting taking lessons with Scott. I was skeptical if lessons would be worth the money going in, but Scott has been excellent. He's not just a great guitarist, but a great musician and teacher too. He's great at noticing bad habits I'm forming and coming up with fun ways to combat them. He also is great at taking the music/songs I'm interested in and tailoring them to my skill level. Youtubes and ultimate tabs would never even come close to that level of customized attention. Learning songs, soloing, singing and playing, music theory--we're hitting it all. And most importantly he's someone I enjoy spending an hour of my week jamming with. I'm glad I decided to give it a try.

Every lesson Scott points me towards a bar way higher than I expected to be at this point. He listens and understands where I am trying to go and customizes the lessons to guide me there. It feels like his teaching is tailored to my specific goals but I get the impression this is his gift that he imparts on each student. Along with chords and learning songs, which I anticipated as a beginner he’s taken my feedback and giving me tips on voice, music theory, and soloing. Most of all he inspires me to practice and enjoy this craft that he loves. Oh yea, he also fixed my acoustic guitar on the spot after I was quoted $65 and a week of work from a music store. He is like Mr. Miyagi (a la Karate Kid) of guitar. I couldn't be more psyched to be on this journey with him.

I have had 3 lessons with Scott so far. I am learning a lot quickly and I feel like I'm headed in the right direction to reach my long term goals. Scott is very knowledgeable and you can tell that he really has a passion for music which makes the lessons more enjoyable. The only "downside" is the lessons feel a bit rushed and sometimes the new information can be overwhelming. This may be because I have been taking only one 45 minute lesson per week. If you put in the time at home between sessions to study and grasp the material presented during the lesson this shouldn't be an issue.

Scott has an excellent skill set to tailor a unique lesson to those who have picked up a guitar for the first time all the way to those looking to build on their own individual developed styles. I've been with Scott for 6 months now and I've learned a lot in his casual but value added environment. Whether you're looking for a very high level music theory centered curriculum or simply wanna jam to some of your favorite riffs, Scott makes a lesson designed for you. Would highly recommend him to any skill level wanting to learn bass, guitar, or general music theory

Just had two lessons with Scott. Enjoyed a lot with the lessons. Scott is open to the music I specially like and the songs I want to play, which I feel great.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Everyone is different. Every teacher emphasizes a different aspect of music and has particular techniques and tricks that they like to champion. Finding a teacher you feel comfortable with and inspired by is very important.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I wish more people understood that there are no real "rules" to music. Music theory does not dictate how to write music as much as it is a description of what humans generally seem to like. In a nutshell, if music sounds good to you, then it is theoretically good music too! When my clients see it that way, its much easier to be creative and confident.
