Counseling goals
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I work with individuals, families and adolescents struggling against anxiety. I specialize in both long-term chronic anxiety, as well as stress, or overwhelm from a specific event or transition (e.g. grief and loss, pregnancy, change of job/career). I believe that spending time with a present, empathetic and compassionate other is a basic human need. As a therapist, I know both how important this need is, and how underfed it can become. Naturally, we attempt to meet this need with friends and family; however, even when surrounded by loved ones, we may find ourselves desiring of something more. This is where finding a counselor suited to you and your personal style can be a good investment of time and energy. Practically, I avoid the rigidity of diagnosis. My job is to see my clients through their masks, and create an experience of authentic connection to cultivate healing and change. I also often use humor in my counseling, but have discovered this is difficult to communicate on a website without sounding disingenuous. (Trust me though; I'm funny!) Educationally, my background balances research-driven and scientifically minded psychology with a holistic, systemic, and presence-based approach to counseling. As I weave this history together, a session may include both a mindfulness-based meditation and a brief educational offering about the brain. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, contact me to arrange a consultation. Our first session together (50 minutes) will be free!

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

As I specialize in anxiety, my clients may look very different from each other. Sometimes they are the achievement-oriented child or adult, struggling to balance the pleasure in their lives with the tasks and challenges of success. Sometimes they are struggling with a particular transition or unexpected stress which has arisen. However they notice stress and anxiety to have entered their world, I work to help them create a different relationship with both themselves and their world to create the change they are seeking.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would advise anyone seeking a counselor to be aware that no two counselors are alike. You will get the best return on your investment of time and energy if you find a person most suited to your personal style. This is where it can be very valuable to spend time on the phone with more than one clinician, and even exploit the free session they may offer to 'dip your toe in the pool' and see if they are right for you. Selecting a counselor can be a big decision, not only financially but emotionally, and I would advise people to take the time to find the right one.
