Justin from Count on it Construction had his hands full with my repair job. My upstairs bathroom was flooded and the house was built in 1920. Justin and his team worked hard to put it back together. During the renovations with a day or two left the upstairs bathroom flooded again, due to a faulty fitting on the toilet. Justin came to the house within 10 minutes of my panicked phone call and had his team on sight within 30. He and his team worked tirelessly to make it write and get the house repaired for the second time. For a terrible situation I couldn't have asked for a better contractor to work with. Justin worked miracles and got the house up and ready to go back on the market within 2 weeks. Thank you to you and your team for working so diligently to get us back up and running. Great, honest, responsive, and genuine contractor to work with.

Melvin did a kitchen remodel for us, in fact, it is the picture you see on this web site. He really had the great vision on how to remodel our kitchen. Melvin was the only contractor we interviewed that saw that we needed to change our roof line to keep the look of our house cohesive with this remodel. He does quality work, he is meticulous and creative. Every day we look at our kitchen, it is hard to believe that something that beautiful is really ours!

Gil was very professional and did quality work in a timely manner. I would definitely recommend Palmer Construction for any of your construction needs. They came out to look at some minor fixes needed from our windstorm 2 years ago, when I could not get other contractors to give me an estimate.

Spokane Stone Creations professionally measured, cut, and installed the quartz counter top for our bathroom cabinet, the stone cap for the half wall, and the stone top on the shower seat. Moreover Pete and his team installed all tile and Schluter edging on the floor and walls of the shower and bathroom, including the shower niche and cabinet back splash. The entire process, working with Pete and his crew, was a great experience. Pete provided clear bids, communicated well throughout, arrived when he said he would, was courteous at all times, attentive to detail, thoughtful and diligent so as to keep construction dust out of the home, and all around very friendly. I'd highly recommend him and his work. He was certainly willing to rise to every challenge this job created. The detailed attention to the seat, niche, and mosaic tile accent was greatly appreciated. The pictures show for themselves. We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome and Pete's work.

After the wind storm of winter 2015 we were in some need of roof, porch roof on the back of our garage repaired as well as a few other things the wind had damaged. Kind of new to thumbtack. I ended up being contacted by four or five contractors interested in putting in their bid. James was the first one who contacted me and the first one to come take a look. Others either price gouged or we had to wait on their schedule. I ended up hiring him and not sorry I did. He made sure to let me know that for the "little bit I had to fix" it wouldn't take that long. Hubby works night shift and James and his crew did an excellent job of working around OUR schedule and never expected us to work around theirs. We barely noticed any noise they did a good job getting it done quickly and fairly quietly. And with good quality. I really can't say enough good about them. I am impressed and will not hesitate in the future to give them a call.

Big Dog Home & Business Services, LLC owner Derrick Mclauchlin was an excellent choice for finishing my basement. He was very careful and detailed in the bid, and was the ONLY bidder who broke out each expense by material and labor. This goes a long way with me in know where exactly my money was going. Strangely enough, ALL other bidders just sent me a cost, with no breakdown, some didn't even send me a bid, just a phone call. I called and had 5 contractors bid on this job, and Derrick was the one I chose. I would recomend this contractor to anyone, and I will be using him for other jobs on my home. I have experienced Matt's work with Prestige Tile several times the last two years. He did outstanding work. Matt is not only extremely competent, but reliable. In a world where we are all busy, having someone give you a schedule and stick to it is great. I will use Matt again as soon as I can move forward with my next project.

My basement floor was not level where I am putting a new bathroom. Ernie arrived when he said he would for his bid; got the bid to me in writing the next day; did the work the very next day. Grinding concrete can be very dusty, Ernie and his helper kept the dust to a minimum by using a vacuum system. He was on time with everything, did everything he said and more, and the quality of work was excellent. Could not have asked for a better contractor. Will absolutely use EWC again if I have any need for concrete work. Very satisified!!

I hired Apex painting to re paint my home this year and i could not be more pleased. Travis came to our house to look at the project, he was very thorough and asked us exactly what we wanted. he walked us thru his entire process and made sure we knew all of our different options and prices. he then gave us a very detailed estimate that was a fair bit lower than the other contractors we called. They arrived on time the first day well groomed and professional,( im old fashioned i guess but that meant alot to me.) the job was completed on time and far exceeded our expectations. i have recommended travis to members of my family and they are just as happy with his work. i will definitely hire Travis for any future projects

My insurance company required me to replace some old siding on my garage if I wanted my policy renewed. My original contractor flaked out on me and I turned to Troy & Allure Construction & Design. Troy came & gave me an estimate that I could work with and started & finished the project in time for me to meet my deadline. Troy & his crew were awesome and did a great job. I'd recommend Allure Construction & Design to anyone who needs work done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
