Simply awesome! Phil went above and beyond to deliver an outstanding experience for the guests at our party. From meeting to discuss the play list and karaoke lineup, to even sending me ukulele tracks so we could play a couple of songs together - would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone wanting to take their party up a notch and provide a memorable experience for all who attend.

Ellisha was amazing and so talented! We hired her for our boys birthday party (ages 5 and 7) and had no clue what a hit the face painting would be, having a face painter totally made the party!! A bunch of 5, 6,7,and 8 year olds and each of their faces turned out so cute/cool! It was the highlight of the party. Thanks Ellisha!!

Kurt was the DJ for my daughter and her friend's Sweet 16 party. He did a phenomenal job! I think the ultimate litmus test of a good DJ is to put them before a crowd of 16 year olds! They loved him, loved the music, loved the photo booth- it was all a huge hit! Kurt was very professional and extremely easy to work with (even through a reschedule due to a snowstorm!). I would hire him again in a nanosecond. :) Overheard at the party: "I wish we could hire him for our school dances- he's way better than the DJs we get!"

Beautiful work! The line for face-painting started to back up so I suggest keeping the designs simple. She provided a great list of options for the kids and adults (really pretty glitter, not crazy or tacky). Thank you for helping to make our neighborhood night out party of 300 people extra special!

Andrea was absolutely fantastic! While we aren’t her typcial clientele (adults) she confidently took up our request to transform my boyfriend and I into Sally and Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas. I sent her some inspiration photos and she NAILED IT! We had endless compliments at the costume party, and the best part is we didn’t feel like we were in full face paint. It was also a breeze to wash off at the end of the night. A+++ work, I highly recommend Andrea for your face painting needs and would rehire. Also, huge bonus that she did this all from the comfort of our home!

Hannah showed up about 10 minutes earlier than was expected in order to be setup and be ready before the party guests arrived. Her artwork was very phenomenal and was able to accommodate a large range of request from ninja turtles to princess and animal faces. She is very sweet and handled the sugar charged kids with ease. She is very professional and will definitely hire Hannah for any of my future events. I thank her so much for making a good birthday party great!!!

One of the best decision that my fiance and I did was to hire Shiva and his team for our engagement party. On the day of the event I was rushing the photographer, and he kept clam and showed us how to pose, they were simply amazing. We received our video and photos fairly soon after the event. I would highly recommend this company.

We had Hans & The Wanted play at our community block party and they were fantastic. Not only was the music exactly what we were looking for - summer time fun - but they were very professional and showed up way before the event to set up. They quickly responded to any questions that we had leading up to the party. Plus, they are just a great group of people. We will definitely have them back!

At the end of December I threw a surprise 40th birthday party for my wife. I set it up at Migration Brewing, and thought that it would be fun to have a photo booth for the guests. We decided to use SnapZone Photo Booth. We had a room reserved from 6:00 until the end of the evening, which for us was around 10:30. Since this party was a surprise, and I was bringing my wife after the other guests had arrived, Rick Thames was left to set up everything without my being present. He even contacted the venue on his own to make sure that everything would be in order when he arrived. By the time my wife and I arrived, just before 7:00, the party was under way. After the initial “Surprise” everyone settled into having a good time. The photo booth was used throughout the entire party. In fact, it had been used for the hour prior to our arrival. There were an assortment of props and it was easy to use. All of the guests enjoyed having several turns at the photo booth, and my wife loved having fun personal memories with all of her friends. Everything from setup to take down was handled professionally and efficiently. I would definitely use Rick Thames again for any future parties. It provided a great time for the guests and some fun, quirky memories.

Significa and DJ Collin are amazing!! He hired Significa for our wedding where our #1 priority was to have a great party with our friends and family... Significa's DJ services and Magic Mirror photo booth knocked it out of the park! From the beginning DJ Collin was on professional and easy to work with. He helped keep us on track during the planning process to making sure he knew what key songs to play when, where/how to help with announcements on the day of, plus got to know our style to fill in the rest. All of this made the day of completely smooth and seamless! DJ Collin did an amazing job of keeping the dance floor full the entire night. My guest LOVED that he not only took requests but also played them in a very timely manner. He kept the party going right to the end which is exactly what we wanted. We had originally booked Significa just for the DJ Services, but decide last minute to add the Magic Mirror photo booth. The photo booth was one of kind and a HUGE hit! Our friends and family loved it! The props were on point, the attendant was friendly and so helpful show all the bells and whistles of the Magic Mirror. Not only was it a hit the day of but we get all the pictures afterwards! We really couldn't be happier with Significa and so glad to have had them as part of our big day. I'd 100% recommend Significa!!

My parents, their guests, and our family enjoyed the music Dee provided for their party SO MUCH! It’s a week later and people at the Bonaventure are still talking about it – particularly how wonderful the music was. Dee brought back many special memories for the whole group with excellent song selections and beautiful singing. I am very pleased Dee was able to find music for my parents’ favorite songs – it added a personal note and really touched their hearts. The extra effort he went to in finding the music and rehearsing the special songs was really appreciated! I also admire how prepared and organized Dee was with his equipment – It was a quick set up and his attention to safety and access were terrific. It was a very happy occasion for all of us. Dee really added to its specialness.

Pressure Point Band was a true highlight for our daughters wedding. So many guests complimented us on hiring a live band for the party. Even the other vendors were impressed and delighted with the music. We would do it again in a heartbeat. Just need another wedding in the family :)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

What is a photo booth rental?

A party photo booth is a fun, interactive experience where guests can take a series of photos (usually three or four) that are immediately printed out on a strip as a keepsake. When you rent a party photo booth, the company sets up the booth or photo station at your event; a photographer staffs the booth and coaches guests on how to use it throughout the event. Often the photo booth rental company provides props like silly hats, wigs and glasses. There are different types of party photo booth rentals. An open-air booth has a curtain or backdrop that allows more freedom of movement and enables more people to use it at one time. The traditional enclosed photo booths that you may have seen at the mall or the fair tend to cost more to rent, as they are harder to transport and also cost more for the pros to purchase. The national average cost for party photo booth rentals is $400-$500.

What does a fortune teller do?

A fortune teller offers insight into people’s past, present and future through private readings. Some fortune tellers read palms or use tarot cards, runes, or tea leaves to see into a client’s future. Other fortune tellers consider themselves psychics, numerologists and mystics who look for patterns and meaning in seemingly random events, such as stirred tea leaves or the draw of a tarot card. By interpreting what they see in the cards or leaves, fortune tellers answer their clients’ questions about their lives, such as who or when they’ll marry, whether they should quit their job, or whether they should have a baby. Tarot card readings are a particularly popular way of having your future told, because they’re such a familiar method of fortune telling. More importantly, you can guide a tarot reading by asking the specific questions that are most important to you. By interpreting the cards you’ve drawn, the fortune teller may give you new insight into yourself and help you make an important decision. For some people, fortune tellers are simply amusing, but for others, they offer helpful guidance and spiritual nourishment.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
