I wish there were more than 5 stars to click on! We hired Jessalyn to remodel our kitchen. Her design plan was one we would have never thought of and one we now couldn’t imagine living without. She reconfigured the whole kitchen and took it from a cramped dark space to a light open one. She paid attention to every detail down to the cabinet knobs. We still can’t believe it’s the same room! Plus she was very conscious of our budget and helped us pick out materials that looked great without breaking the bank. My wife and I couldn’t be happier with the end results and would not hesitate to use Jessalyn for any design project.

Lisa is a masterful designer & decorator, yet she is so down-to-earth and friendly. She came into my house and helped me use décor and accessories that I already owned and help me create a whole new look. I told her what kind of atmosphere I wanted and she made it happen! I highly recommend contacting Lisa at Changing Styles Redesign for home staging and interior decorating. Lisa is amazing!

The general contractor for our remodel was supposed to help us design and then install the backsplash. However he went on vacation midway through our project. We sought out other options and had the project completed by the time he got back. Elite Living saved our nightmare project!! Mark and Marci are fantastic!!!!! We had been struggling with a design that tied everything in our kitchen together. They gave us a number a great ideas and made the decision incredibly easy (something our GC failed to do). Both personable and professional. They were extremely precise, leaving almost no product waste. We love our backsplash and so does everyone who has been in our kitchen since the complete remodel. If you don't contact them for a quote you are doing yourself a disservice.

Rebecca was referred to us by a coworker. Our kitchen was very dated and needed a facelift. She came in with ideas beyond what I was looking for and could not have come up with on my own. I was surprised that I could have a more expensive looking design by combining different materials into a custom layout. I was happy to have worked with her.

This was the best $50 I ever spent.... Susan saved me $1000's by reviewing my needs, my space, my budget and gave me a solid plan. Very prayical useful information whiched helped me turn a family room into a home office/studio. Susan has a good eye for color and style. I would recommend getting a second set of eyes to help you put a strategy in place before a remodel or new construction. Susan will save you time, money and energy!

Adam did the floors throughout my home.He did a really nice job. The flooring is a laminate flooring that we purchased at Menards. We enjoyed Adams unique character, and our floors so much, that we hired him to do our custom designed back splash as well. Overall we had a pleasurable experience. We would hire again if needed.

My approach is almost always unconventional but tailored to fit my client perfectly. I believe lighting design is as important as color choice in creating the desired feel and function of a space. In an ideal world, there would be only spaces that uplift the spirit while contributing to physical well-being. My background in green building and restoration of historic buildings in Germany and France gives me a deep respect for existing architectural elements and styles. With this comes the desire to treat buildings holisticly, that is, bringing the interior and exterior into harmony.

        About

I am an interior designer who has had my own design business for 16 years in Naples, FL and 15 years in WI. I moved back to WI to be near my family. I can help you with all of your design needs, from the concrete slab to the finish. I can show you samples of everything you are looking to do. I do scale drawings and measure your rooms that you would like to have changed. I have done many homes from the beginning to the end by mail to client. Then when they moved to Naples, their home was totally finished. I design custom window treatments and all kinds of bedding and pillows. We get together at an agreed spot for us to get to know each other. This process is also done for safety for both of us. We get to know one another. If you show me some pictures of your home and possibly photos of styles you like, I can get everything going. For any questions, please call me. Thanks, and I am looking forward to embellishing your home to your tastes and styles. It may seem overwhelming to you, but it will not be as complicated as you think. I give you three different designs and you see if you like anything and that is the beginning of your new look! Thanks, Patricia Henriott

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

        • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
        • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
        • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
        • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

        • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
        • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
        • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
        • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
