I think every customer likes to be informed on where there money is going and why. Completely understandable.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Jakes Painting is a company that strives to meet the customers expectations with the quality of work desired. In doin this we also don’t forget our main goal is to protect the surface we are tasked to coat. We get this background of quality and utilizing our knowledge to protect the surface needing the protection, from our industrial/nuke background. Not only can we paint wood, metal, vinyl etc; but we also have training and specialize in all coatings such as iron, steel, aluminum, marine, insulation, fireproofing, zinc, stainless steel etc. You name it and with Jakes history at Plant Vogtle having to maintain his level 1 certifications like spraying, sandblasting, brushing and rolling, and the certifications to be able to apply certain material took a lot of training. Working predominantly in containment Jake had to follow strict specs and steps to every job he did. The coating or system being applied had to be per spec to that exact package for that job. Having to follow strict rules and meeting stringent requirements Jake learned to apply coatings that would have to be a certain millage thickness or else the coating could fail inspection or worse the entire coating fail and cause damage to the structures inside the nuclear reactor. A mill stands for a millionth of an inch. The training made him a lot more detailed, accurate and precise with his work. He also learned and took advantage of being able to paint all types of surfaces with different materials. He really learned the science behind this and he applies it to every job he works on.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started in this trade at 15 years of age, my uncle who has been in business for 20+ years mentored me and taught me a lot about residential and commercial work. I became a good quality brush and roll painter and realized how much I loved to paint.
