- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
If a client would like, I provide a free phone consultation (usually 15 to 20 minutes). During that time we can discuss counseling desires, processes, concerns and any questions the client has. We then schedule a time for our first counseling session. The client will complete intake paperwork from my website and bring that with them to our first session. In the intake session we will discuss the paperwork and what goals the client hopes to accomplish in counseling. Then the journey begins!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Family and Child Development and a Master's Degree in Marriage, Couples and Family Counseling. I then earned my license as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I am EMDR trained and am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional through the International Association of Trauma Professionals. My experience includes a great deal of trauma, grief, couples and LGBT work. I have enjoyed working with couples for many years in many different capacities and enjoy the uniqueness of couples work. I have worked as a sexual assault counselor working with men and women who have been abused as children and/or assaulted as an adult. I was a bereavement counselor in hospice working with those who lost loved ones, including children. I have been a crisis counselor for many years working with those who have been victims of crime and tragedy such as suicide, homicide, traffic fatalities, death of children, family violence, rape, robbery, stalking, etc. I have worked with clients traumatized by their military experiences and/or their work in law enforcement. I appreciate and understand the unique nature of that work having worked as a counselor in law enforcement for nearly 9 years. I have worked with those struggling with gender identity and LGBT issues like coming out, family and child issues, couple and marriage challenges, gender transition and much more. Please visit my website to learn more about my experience and training and feel free to email or call to talk with me about any questions you have!
