Introduction: When it comes to teaching, I'm very patient and can understand the perspectives of my students. Because I know my subjects well I can explain the answers with whatever media is best for the student, whether they are a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner. My patience is learned through experience as an unpaid intern at Swedish hospital in Seattle and six years of childcare experience at my church. I love that moment when a student of mine finally understands a concept. The connection is made, and the frustration melts away to reveal an "aha!" moment that proves how amazing the human mind truly is. Sometimes this can only be achieved through one-on-one instruction with a tutor who can analyse where the information is getting tied up or blocked. Unlike a professor teaching a class of 20 or more, I have the opportunity to dig in and help my students really understand a concept.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I charge $20 an hour for one-on-one tutoring. For groups of two or more I charge an additional $5 an hour per additional person.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

In addition to my 4.0 at Squalicum high school, I received 5's on AP Physics 1 and 2, AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Music Theory, AP Environmental Science, AP Human Geography, AP Psychology, AP Biology, and AP Literature and Composition. Additionally, I received 4's on AP Language and AP Chemistry. In my freshman year of College at Seattle Pacific University I received a 4.0 in the general biology and general chemistry sequence, and also won the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Freshman Chemistry.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would say to find someone who not only understands the tutoring subject matter, but also understands how people learn and think. This is almost more important than knowing the subject matter itself. Just because you know the information doesn't mean you can teach it to someone. The difference between a good tutor and a great tutor is whether or not they can cater to the needs of a specific student.
