FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
If it's video, I generally charge by the hour. Clients should know that the production (shooting of the video) is not necessarily the hard part. It's the editing (post-production) and attention to detail (graphics & special effects) that's usually so time consuming.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Through a conversation with the prospective client, I like to get an idea of what it is he or she is seeking to accomplish. It generally doesn't take long to determine if I can successfully assist in accomplishing the goal. If I can't, I'll let the person know upfront. As well understanding what the desired outcome is, I like them to explain what they want, and trust me and my methods of getting them there.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA Degree in Communications. I worked as an on-air, Television News Reporter in four different TV markets over the course of almost a decade. In that first market, I was also my own cameraman (referred to as a One-Man-Band!). I've taught high school English at three different high schools (11th & 12th grades), as well as did freelance writing for a newspaper. (So, I've always been paid to write - in that, a Television News Reporter is just a "visual writer.") As it relates to still photography, during too many video shoots, I was often asked about taking pictures and my answer was always, "I don't; but I know somebody who does." I was leaving too many opportunities on the table for other people to capitalize on. Being that I had experience at shooting my own video professionally for a TV station, an now as the owner of my own company, I thought it would be advantageous to use those same skills to add "still" pictures to my offerings - so I did; and have become quite skilled at it!
