Introduction: As a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, I spent half my high school curriculum learning about electrical and computer engineering. I went on to attend NYU's Tandon School of Engineering, where I continued to focus my skills on mathematics, computer programming and completed a chemical engineering degree. I work throughout the city, maintaining long standing relationships with many of my students as I assist them through the different transitions from junior high to high school and then to college. With strong skills with patience and positive reinforcement, I have fostered encouragement and enthusiasm in learning challenging and abstract academic content. I enjoy sharing my love for math and science while helping many students achieve dreams of getting into schools such as Stuyvesant, Bronx Science & Brooklyn Tech help them hone in their skills so that they can continue on in the college of their choice and find the transition from high school to college an easy one. Math skills are a life skill in the 21st century. I like to think of it as yoga for the brain. Even if these subjects and formulas are left behind for most students after they leave the classroom; the analytical and problem solving skills developed by learning how to think with a mathematical and logically oriented mind will equip any child or adult with a skill that will never be obsolete!

Growing up going to a talented and gifted school, the expectations were always high. Once I started to take regents exams, I realized that I needed some extra help. New York City Tutors was the most helpful resource I had during my late middle school and high school years. The service was thorough, the information straightforward, and the explanations always clear. My tutor became more than just my teacher, she also became a friend. I always felt comfortable asking for help and supported through my young academic career. My tutor provided personalized lessons and tools for me to practice and study material. She was invested in me and my success, and it is because of her help that I was able to reach my fullest potential in school.

Jenny was with my son throughout some of middle school and through all of high school. She supported him in organizational skills, test taking, and finally preparing for his SAT. He and his friends had learning cohorts with her in which they took practice tests set up to mirror the actual test. Jenny was always good at individualizing her approach to each student, depending on his/her math abilities and my son and his friends learned so much from her ability to differentiate in this way. Jenny was such a part of our family and after the years we spent together we still feel obliged to her for the commitment level she exhibited and the learning community she created for my son and his friends. Without Jenny my son would not have scored so well on his SAT and more importantly, he would not have an understanding of the math that is needed to support him in his daily life.

Jenny taught my son from middle to high school. She was very helpful for my son to improve his grades, and we all appreciate her thorough knowledge of NYC educational system such as the specialized tests, state testing, regents, etc. Now he is at SUNY Newpaltz enjoying his college life.

The hourly rate can be discounted when students schedule two hour sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Calculus Tutor at the Office of Special Services at NYU's Tanden School of Engineering. For over ten years, I have continued to work as a freelance math tutoring working with students one on one. Deeply immersed in teaching mathematics in a one-on-one environment for over a decade, I have helped many students overcome any math related anxieties, improve their grades and find the subject fun to study.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I enjoyed sharing my achievements with my fellow students by helping them learn. I also found that by helping others learn math it helped me learn more about the subject myself.
