Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Hi! My name is Sam. I'm originally from NY, but have also lived in Geneva, Switzerland and Singapore. I understand what it is like to be in a foreign country, and how difficult it can be when you aren't comfortable with the language! I have a CELTA certification (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages), which is provided by the Cambridge English Language Assessment, and have been teaching both private and small group classes since 2013. I love languages, and have a degree in French language and literature from Buffalo State College. I believe that learning languages opens so many doors for people, and being able to help people integrate into the English-speaking world gives me so much joy and fulfillment! I love working with people from all over the world, and learning about their lives and cultures, as well as sharing mine with them! Within the first few lessons, you'll start speaking simple sentences and as time goes on, you'll be able to have full conversations like a pro! My students have won "Most Improved English" awards at school, and have gone from speaking very little English, to being able to communicate comfortably within a short amount of time. I can tailor lessons to your specific needs and abilities, and enjoy finding interesting, fun materials to assist you in your learning. My lessons are very student centered, and I love incorporating news articles, passages from books and songs, as well as lots of conversation. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about me or my lessons. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Samantha is a great teacher! I really appreciated the fact that early on she was willing to understand my needs in order to adjust the content of our sessions. She helped me a lot improve my pronunciation skills. She has traveled a lot around the world and she is open to other cultures. Samantha is also very flexible and makes it fun to learn!

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Before the first lesson, I send my students a questionnaire to fill out that includes many questions about their background and goals. With that information, I can prepare an appropriate first lesson with them. Usually the first lesson involves a lot of conversation, as well as a few diagnostic tests to assess the student's abilities and the areas that they need to work on. From there, I create a plan tailored to the needs and interests of my student, which we can change as the lessons continue and the student improves their English.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a CELTA certification, which is one of the highest regarded TEFL certifications available worldwide. The CELTA training program is very intensive and includes both classroom instruction and practical teaching experience.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with both adults and children of all ages, as young as 4 years old! My students come from various backgrounds... I've taught Japanese housewives, Israeli businessmen, Italian primary school children, and many others from all over the world. Because my lessons are tailored to each student's specific goals and interests, I am very flexible in who I can teach.
