My company, THE MARK dance company, worked with Cuong in the summer of 2012. We collaborated on 2 pieces of music in a 3 section work. It was a really great first experience at working with a composer and learning how to talk about music back and forth. Cuong was very gracious with listening to my ideas and adding his own input as we created the dance/music. He was also very willing to re-work sections of music that I wanted modified after the 1st draft was sent, as we tailored it to the dance (which had been pre-choreographed in silence). These attributes of willingness and humility to adjust one's own work for the greater good of the piece as a whole is so important, and I am so glad I was able to work with someone who had these characteristics. Cuong is exquisitely talented and extremely passionate and knowledgable about music, dance, video, and visual art. In 2013, I asked Cuong to collaborate with me/Deep Vision Dance Company on a new choreographic work, entitled "3." Cuong dived into the research process and crafted an original music composition. The quality of his work and his attention to detail were phenomenal. This collaborate artwork was performed throughout Maryland, selected to the prestigious Maryland Choreographer's Showcase, and performed at the American College Dance Association's Mid Atlantic Region's Gala concert. I start by getting to know and understand clearly client's vision. After initial discussion, I provide consultation and educational information necessary for customer to make well informed decision. Finally come plan and execution, while keeping client closely updated.
