My 5 year old son started taking piano lessons with WillYouLearn a couple months ago and we are beyond thrilled! My son looks forward to the lesson each week and has made tremendous progress in the short time he has been playing. He already can play songs by memory. The lessons are thorough and our instructor is punctual, accessible and always engaged with my son. Highly recommend!

My son has had a great experience with Will. He switched after having studied with another teacher for several years because he felt he needed a new approach. Will has reinvigorated his enthusiasm for the piano, teaching him how to improvise and improve his technique. He even (often) practices for fun.

About this pro

Willyoulearn is NYC's at home music school. We offer lessons in piano, guitar, ukulele, violin, vocals, drums, woodwinds, bass. "Make music your own." How did you learn your first language? through books and classes? Or was it by imitating what you heard around you and making the language your own? Playing music is a lot like speaking a language. As musicians we use phrases to tell stories and we use our instruments to express our thoughts and feelings. We've found the best way to learn to play music is a lot like learning your first language. You learn to imitate what you hear and then make it your own. We teach our students how to "speak" the language of music. They learn how to listen, how to absorb, how to read, how to make music their own until playing becomes a form of expression as natural as speech. Only more musical. ...and a lot more fun. We've been featured in the Thumbtack Pro Spotlight! thumbtack.com/blog/pro-spotlight-making-steady-reliable-income-practicing-love/ Some of the most influential people in my life have been musicians. I decided as a college student to dedicate my life to passing along the joy of music to others and the greatest joy I get is from helping students bring the music out of themselves. Music is not hard, it takes work, but it can be something as natural as speech. I love seeing the joy our students get when they realize this and understand that music is already something inside of themselves. The faculty members I work with share the same sentiment and I love being able to work with a continually growing number of students, doing my best to bring them a musical experience as meaningful as mine was to me.

    Q & A

    • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
WillYouLearn offers two semesters each school year. Each semester the students are allotted 16 one hour lessons at the same day and time each week followed by an end-of-semester make-up session. The tuition for one semester is $1550. Discounts are offered for early registration and yearly registration
    • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We do our best to match students with the best teacher for their needs. Each semester begins with a three lesson trial period in which a student may withdraw for any reason for a full refund minus the lessons to date.
    • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our faculty members are fixtures in the NYC music scene, performing frequently at clubs from the Blue Note to the Bitter End. You can hear our voices, instruments, or compositions on countless recordings, film scores and shows. Fox 5’s Star of the Day or Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle. We are graduates of NYU, New England Conservatory, Peabody, Manhattan School of Music, to name a few. We’ve studied music in the academy and honed our craft on band stands from L.A. to Shanghai, and learned to speak the language right here in New York alongside legends like Roy Hargrove, Jeremy Pelt, Ron McClure, Jean-Michel Pilc, Stefon Harris, Scott Colley, Christian McBride and others.
