About this pro

How does your service stand out?

Willyoulearn is NYC's at home music school. We offer lessons in piano, guitar, ukulele, violin, vocals, drums, woodwinds, bass. "Make music your own." How did you learn your first language? through books and classes? Or was it by imitating what you heard around you and making the language your own? Playing music is a lot like speaking a language. As musicians we use phrases to tell stories and we use our instruments to express our thoughts and feelings. We've found the best way to learn to play music is a lot like learning your first language. You learn to imitate what you hear and then make it your own. We teach our students how to "speak" the language of music. They learn how to listen, how to absorb, how to read, how to make music their own until playing becomes a form of expression as natural as speech. Only more musical. ...and a lot more fun. What do you enjoy about the work you do?

Some of the most influential people in my life have been musicians. I decided as a college student to dedicate my life to passing along the joy of music to others and the greatest joy I get is from helping students bring the music out of themselves. Music is not hard, it takes work, but it can be something as natural as speech. I love seeing the joy our students get when they realize this and understand that music is already something inside of themselves. The faculty members I work with share the same sentiment and I love being able to work with a continually growing number of students, doing my best to bring them a musical experience as meaningful as mine was to me.

    WillYouLearn is amazing!
WillYouLearn is amazing! My four year old (almost five) loves every minute of his music lessons and can't wait for the next one. We are impressed that he was learning how to play by ear in the first lesson. I can't recommend WillYouLearn enough!

    Perfect for a First-Time Musician
I took a trial ukulele lesson from Gracie and loved it! I've never played an instrument before and she was able to tailor the lesson...stopping to explain and always remaining extremely patient. I signed up for the full semester and can't wait for my next lesson!

Never thought I could have such fun learning the ukulele!!!
I started taking ukulele lessons from Gracie Terzian. She is fabulous. I'm an older student, and I mean older, and she is moving me along at my own pace. I'm having so much fun and learning at the same time. I look forward to every lesson. I can't say enough positive things about Gracie!!!

Just What my 7 year-old Needed
I was looking for a guitar instructor for my 7-year old. I needed a teacher experienced with children who would bring patience, humor, and musical talent to the learning process. Gracie delivered on all fronts. On our first day, Gracie was accompanied by Will and together they explained their approach to learning guitar and proceeded with a series of fun activities that had my daughter practicing even after they left and very much looking forward to the next lesson.

    Easygoing & relatable
As a newcomer to music who's also an adult (I'm 29 as of this post), I was really afraid of taking lessons, since most folks who are starting to learn are young. But Will made me feel very comfortable, treated me with respect, and gave me the advice I needed to feel confident in my journey. I plan on going back to him :)

Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We do our best to match students with the best teacher for their needs. Each semester begins with a three lesson trial period in which a student may withdraw for any reason for a full refund minus the lessons to date.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our faculty members are fixtures in the NYC music scene, performing frequently at clubs from the Blue Note to the Bitter End. You can hear our voices, instruments, or compositions on countless recordings, film scores and shows. Fox 5’s Star of the Day or Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle. We are graduates of NYU, New England Conservatory, Peabody, Manhattan School of Music, to name a few. We’ve studied music in the academy and honed our craft on band stands from L.A. to Shanghai, and learned to speak the language right here in New York alongside legends like Roy Hargrove, Jeremy Pelt, Ron McClure, Jean-Michel Pilc, Stefon Harris, Scott Colley, Christian McBride and others.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your service? If so, please share the details here.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
Will Armstrong started WillYouLearn in 2014 as a way of providing the highest quality music education to all ages while providing his fellow musicians with steady and reliable clients.

We've taught four year olds their first lessons, prepped high school students for college auditions, and reacquainted octogenarians with the instruments of their youth. We’ve taught in grade schools, prep schools, boys and girls clubs, colleges, private homes and universities. We currently work with the Avenues World School and the Hewitt School and have given assemblies throughout the city.
