Carole's Language Services
About this pro
Carole is an excellent resource for tutoring. Her background in education made us feel confident in knowing that our daughter was getting top quality services. She was patient and didn't give our daughter the answers. She made her think outside of her comfort zone and gave her tips that she can use going forward. Thank you Carole!Apr 9, 2017Verified
Carole is a knowledgeable and conscientious copyeditor. I have used her services on several manuscripts and have always been satisfied with the results.Nov 3, 2016
I had Carole proof read and then do a grammar check for my Doctor of Ministry dissertation. She did an excellent job of finding and correcting my mistakes and re-configuring sentences and paragraphs so that they read better than I had originally written them. Likewise, she corrected my footnote errors and made sure the paper conformed to the format expected of the seminary. In short, it was a tremendous relief having Ms. King go through my paper and then not have to worry about those aspects of my paper and instead allowing me to concentrate on the content of the paper.Oct 26, 2016
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Teaching and tutoring starts at $30 to $35 per hour, depending on the type needed. Editing starts at $.02 per word, for basic editing, and goes up from there. Heavy editing and developmental editing are necessarily more. Proofreading starts at $.015 per word. If I find a manuscript is very well prepared, I may give a discount.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I assess what the client's needs are, where he or she is starting from, and what his or her style is. This gives me the basis to best serve each client as an individual.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Tutoring and teaching: Although I just signed up with Thumbtack, I have twenty years of experience teaching and tutoring both French and English in the classroom and to individuals. I earned my Certificat d'études françaises (Certificate of French Studies) from the Université de Neuchâtel, Séminaire de français moderne, in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. My experience learning a second language in Europe helps me understand many of the challenges faced by those learning English as a second language. Writing and editing: I just signed up with Thumbtack, but I have written a wide range of documents and have edited and proofed nearly every genre of writing from short brochures to full books, including both fiction and nonfiction. I have developed books from brainstorming all the way through final checking and proofing. In addition, I have experience in page design and indexing.
