Introduction: My name is Cassan François and I am a tutor working at Great Oaks Legacy Middle School. I graduated from The College of Saint Elizabeth in May 2017 with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Studio/Fine Arts and moved to Newark to work with Great Oaks. Tutorials are a crucial component of the scholar’s success. As a tutor, I will work with the scholar on reading, writing, and math each week. The purpose of tutorial is to give the scholar daily, individualized attention to support what he/she is learning in school/at home. Therefore, my responsibility is to make sure the scholar masters all the materials to excel personally and academically. A few years ago, I worked as a 5th grade tutor for 3 years for the Student Outreach & Academic Reinforcement after school program. There, I reinforced understanding in math, reading, spelling, writing mainly as well as specific topics in social studies, algebra, and science. For a year, I worked for the Intergenerational Community Advancement Network as a mentor for middle school students. . Creating long lasting relationships with scholars built in trust . Aid scholar set and achieve weekly goals . Having scholar exceed his/her self-expectation(s) . Value ongoing learning and growth . Provide guidance and constructive feedback .
