Andrea Brugger

Introduction: I have a bachelors degree in elementary education and special education (learning disabilities) K-12 license from UW-Oshkosh. I have taught elementary special education for 7 years and high school special education for 20 years. I have taken 30+ credits beyond my degree in diverse areas including: reading, writing, technology, and transition planning beyond high school. I tutored students full time for 8 years in reading, writing, and math while my three children were young. I also tutored many students during the summer and after school. I have co-taught in many regular education classes: Algebra, English 9 & 10, and Social Studies. I am able to tutor high school students through these classes too. I am currently tutoring one student from MATC community college, one from MIAD, and another from UWM in various subjects. I also worked for SRA publishing company as a teacher consultant and trainer for 5 years. This allowed me to acquire many programs with proven scientific based results that I am able to use with my students. I specialize in teaching reading to students that need to close their reading gaps. I do pre and post testing with standardized tests that show results. I have a special interest in reading and learning about health related issues (e.g. ADHD, Bi-Polar, allergies) since I feel it affects so many students' ability to concentrate and do well in school. I understand and empathize with students that struggle in school since I had this problem when I was very young. I am able to relate to students of all ages since I not only have three of my own kids, but have taught students of all ages from 1st grade through young adults. My diverse tutoring and teaching experiences allow me to speak very knowledgeably about your son or daughters education and the assistance I can provide. I find tutoring to be extremely rewarding because I can really make a difference in a student's future since I have the one on one time to spend with them. As a teacher in a classroom for so many years, one of my biggest frustrations was the lack of time to give each student the extra attention that they needed. I find that all students can excel given the right teaching methods, tools, encouragement, and understanding. I have been fortunate to watch some of the students that I have tutored at a young age grow up and now attend college. This has brought tears to my eyes and joy in my heart knowing that I was a part of their success path. I am an extremely hard worker and take an active interest in the students I work with. I enjoy getting to work with students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and personalities.
