We were looking for last minute entertainment for our office party and Don & LaShelle responded very quickly. They were very punctual and great to talk with to understand what type of music we were looking for during the night. They played a great set list and kept everyone entertained. I would recommend them for any party!!

    Love these DJs!
Always a good time when Don and LaShelle are spinning the tunes! Very accommodating and really know how to play to the crowd's liking. Can't wait until I have an event where I can hire them!

    Five star business
I give Star Entertainment a five. They are so friendly, professional, and played exactly what we wanted, right down to the song. We used their service for both our wedding and our reception. Our reception space ended up being a lot smaller than what we had planned and they were able to make it work. We sincerely appreciated their dedication to our special day! I would highly recommend Don and Lashell for any event! I can't think of anything that they could have done better!

Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Each customer is unique. Most often we begin by asking some general questions about the event and what the customer is specifically looking for. Depending on the style of the event, we have various planning worksheets that we go over with the customer to best tailor our services to their event.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Both Don and LaShelle enjoy music from all genres (country, pop, rock, folk, etc.) and years (current and oldies)! They love sharing this enjoyment with others and understand that music is a very personal thing to many people. Their backgrounds are unique which helps provide an all-encompassing, well-rounded experience for customers. Don is a music aficionado since his first 45 in pre-school. Rarely can a customer stump him with a song lyric or artist that he has not already heard! He specifically enjoys putting together "Name That Tune" sets, which provides a fun challenge to guests attending any style of party. He also has over 20 years of experience in owning and operating businesses. LaShelle worked as the Activites Director for the University of Iowa Honors Program for just shy of 10 years. During that time she helped coordinate and run hundreds of events ranging in size of less than 10 students to over 500 students. She has a knack for picturing the layout and timing of events, and even considers the various "what-ifs" that could go wrong to plan ahead and be prepared so guests never even know if something didn't go as planned. She has been singing and dancing herself for many years and was a member of the University of Iowa Old Gold Singers show choir for four years, so she is able to get a wedding reception or karaoke crowd started easily.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
When Don and LaShelle became engaged, they realized that between the two of them they had more than enough music to begin a DJ company and experience to own and operate one. LaShelle had worked for another KJ company (which moved out of town), and they both really enjoyed hosting karaoke events at local establishments or parties. Naturally, they decided that a fun use of their free time would be to create their own company!
What types of customers have you worked with?
We have worked with a wide variety of people and organizations. Listed below is a small sampling highlighting the variety. - Holden Cancer Center, University of Iowa - Longfellow Elementary School 6th Grade Lock-in - Christmas in July Family event held in a large barn (over 500 in attendance) - Fundraising benefit for child with cancer - Variety of Weddings (from summer dresses and swim trunks, 5-star elegance, South African themed, and more) - Variety of Karaoke gigs (various bars/restaurants, birthday parties, and more)
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Think about the kind of music you want, then try and stump your DJ. Are they able to come up with similar songs that you would like based off of one or two suggestions? Do they already have the type of music you are wanting/needing or are they willing to get it for no extra cost? Also, how personable is the DJ/KJ? Can they adjust their demeanor to fit your event? For example, at a wedding, will they be able to help get the crowd dancing on the floor, then encourage the kids to do the Hokey Pokey, and also engage your grandparents and others in the longest married couple dance?
