I was downsized and totally caught off guard. I hadn't written a resume in ten years and had no idea what kind of job I was qualified for let alone what I would actually want to do. A friend of a friend referred me to Amanda for Career Coaching. How does one stand out among a sea of resumes I asked myself? I knew I had a pretty good resume, but how would I make myself more interesting and desirable than the next job candidate? Then I read Amanda's blog post about personal branding on LinkedIn. In the post she identified the essential difference in today's job search. Not only do you have to get past the resume edit, you have to get through the google search. According to Amanda, 70% of hiring managers Google their candidates to learn everything they can about them. Through this Google search the hiring manager will either tune in or tune out. I realized that my Google search was not going to come up with roses. When I reached out to Amanda, we talked about how competitive my industry is. I shared my resume with her and she agreed that I only needed some minor revisions. What Amanda said I really needed were some branded online marketing assets. We decided that Amanda would create a personal website, blog and social media profiles for me. She seamlessly integrated my skills, passions, and the language that my potential employer would identify with. The website was a total hit.
