- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We get to know each other of course! I want a feel for the dog's temperament, its drive levels, its confidence, reaction to the owner, the owners responses to the dog, etc. I'm watching all sorts of things. That is only a snapshot though. First impressions are just that. Only one snapshot; but from all the action I start turning the training wheels in my head and drawing up a lesson plan. There is no "one size fits all" in dog training. Nope, you gotta draw those plans up on the spot, then change them here and there, and change them again sometimes! Dog training is dynamic!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
17+ Years experience teaching obedience classes, some agility, working my own dogs, titling them, handling dogs in the performance ring, 8 years working under two fantastic mentors with canine behavior cases. I am an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, a C.L.A.S.S. Instructor, and simply really good at reading dogs. I keep my humility though, as you never know what might happen five minutes from that moment, which is going to make you look like a real fool! :-) I am currently training my own dogs in tracking, obedience, and protection.
