We did both engagement and wedding photos with Tommy and I honestly couldn't be happier with how each session turned out. He did a phenomenal job listening to all my half-baked, Instagram-inspired ideas, and then turned them into something beautiful and unique that somehow perfectly captured our relationship. We had several of the engagement photos printed into a Guest Book for our reception and it turned out gorgeous. I can't wait to do something similar with our wedding photos. I didn't have specific ideas about what I wanted for pictures, I just knew I wanted them to look natural. We weren't having a traditional church ceremony - in fact my husband's best friend was our officiant - so it felt natural to do something a little more relaxed. We knew we wanted a first look and we wanted to get most of the photos out of the way before the ceremony started. We only had must-have photo that we wanted captured at night. Tommy listened to everything we wanted and captured some truly beautiful candid moments of us, the bridal party, our family, and our guests. He even brought backlighting to capture the nighttime photo we asked for. My favorite, though, is one he snapped of the entire bridal party because he perfectly captured the mood and personality of the group in a single snap. Tommy was great to work with from the time we booked with him, and he was incredibly patient with us when things went a little sideways on us during our reception. We had planned to do family photos immediately the ceremony, but our families were tough to corral despite our best efforts at planning a smooth transition. Tommy remained calm the entire time and helped us improvise as much as possible. His patience in that moment meant a lot and went a long way toward keeping me calm.

We are so happy that we chose Tommy to be our photographer on our wedding day! It was clear after our first meeting with him that he loves what he does. Our wedding was actually a surprise wedding, so guests thought they were at our engagement party. This required a lot of moving parts and special requests for what was being captured during the series of events that lead up to the reveal. Tommy was on board from the beginning and helped us figure out the perfect timeline to make it all work. Tommy is an easy going and friendly guy which made it easy to be comfortable taking pictures. We truly felt like we made a good friend by the end of the night. We have enjoyed all of our photos and cannot recommend him enough!

My wife Laura and I chose Thomas McNamara Photography for our Wedding Day and we couldn’t be any happier with the results! We viewed numerous galleries by local wedding photographers online before narrowing down to only two or three options that fit our budget. To preface the next sentence, I am a hobbyist photographer who is already biased in the type of tone I like to see in photography. What stood out to us on Thomas McNamara’s website was the vivid level of color but realistic amount of contrast that brought so much life to his subjects. Many other websites seemed overcooked or bland, but the editing and grading by Thomas really drew us in. Laura and I were glad to meet Thomas (Tommy) for the first time during our engagement session and we left relieved, feeling we made a great decision. Tommy is very personable, a great sense of humor, and a fantastic eye for environment. When we saw our engagement photos just a couple weeks later we were blown away! Prior to Wedding Day, Tommy stayed in contact with us and shared his thoughts on a good hour-by-hour itinerary for the day starting with venue setup to make sure he was able to get all the shots we wanted. As a real professional, Tommy naturally knew about shots we would want - but didn’t even know we wanted! We entered our venue feeling like we were in control but Tommy had a clear road map to help us along. On the Wedding Day, Tommy and his second (Brooke) were true professionals, blending in with the guests but snapping away non-stop. We trusted his instincts 100%, and throughout the night he made sure to come to us to offer suggestions on what would make a great shot, which we always obliged. Only a few days after the wedding, Tommy already shared a few “sneak preview” shots with us that left Laura speechless. Our family and friends loved them, and then no more than 4 weeks after the wedding we had the entire gallery available. We came away with nearly 800 edited photos, all of them tack-sharp and beautiful, and we have so much fun looking at them! What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
When quoting customers I try to customize a package that is jam packed with value for money, that not only meets the need described by the customer, but goes above and beyond. My hope is that my quote will always be competitively priced, and stay within the budget range as set by the customer. All taxes and fees are included in quote (except for extended distances of travel as specified per each distance from KC Metro).
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always encourage new customers to visit my website and social media pages (Instagram + Facebook) before you make a final decision, so that they can get a chance to view my most current wedding and portrait photography. From there, we can talk more about initial quote and photography goals, and if I am the right fit then all that is required to secure a booking is a signed digital contract accompanied by a 20% deposit payment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
25 years of shooting photography from film to digital. 18 years of that have been in a professional capacity, shooting events, weddings, and all types of portraiture. In the early 2000’s after shooting the weddings of some of our close friends, myself and close friend David Mannah co-founded an Australian company 'phao photography' which is today one of Sydney's leading wedding photography companies. Today, on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, I live in Kansas City, MO, USA, the heart of America.
