FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I usually charge by the hour but it is also flexible depending on the type of project. There are times when a project is best treated as a standard minimum to maximum price upon completion. I find there is almost always room for negotiation.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Listening for at least a half an hour! It is imperative that this time with the client be one in which the I am invited into the client's psyche as much as the details of the project at hand. This is because --- whether putting together a novel, a memoir or a resume --- the client's goals are usually very specific but not fully fleshed out and/or articulated in words. It's my job to take notes and listen for at least a half hour (at no charge to the client of course) so that both of us are clear about all aspects of the project on a 'nuts and bolts' level (format, word limit if applicable, audience, etc.) as well as on a grander scale, e.g., how will this project's completion move the client closer to her/his achievement goals professionally and personally.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was a fellowship student at the prestigious University of Iowa Writers Workshop. I have been publishing and writing as well as editing other writers' works, some of them award winning, for 25 plus years. As above, I have received awards for my own work including a magazine I published and edited.
