Introduction: I am an Arizona teacher, certified to teach grades K-12. I am certified in mathematics 7-12 as well as in special education. I offer math and reading tutoring to all levels, as well as standardized test prep services (ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, etc.). I also offer homeschool help as well as college math help. Are you or your child struggling in math? Do you want your child to excel in math class this year? Are you a college student struggling with your math requirement? Do you need help preparing for standardized testing? I am a math and reading teacher and graduate student in education with experience in elementary and middle school math and reading, pre-algebra, algebra, Algebra 2, geometry, pre-calculus, state competency exam prep, SAT/ACT prep and GRE/GMAT prep. I meet students at a convenient location of their choosing. For college students, I am experienced with ALEKS and Pearson MyLabsPlus online courses and can guide you through all required college math courses, as well as statistics and math for medications. In preparing for tests like the ACT, SAT, GRE or GMAT, I can help not only with the mathematics portion, but I am also also experienced at preparing students for the language arts portions. I have developed a specific program and materials for the 27 rules of grammar you need to know to get a high ACT score. I am especially good at relating test taking strategies and tips that can increase your score without having to learn new information! The teaching of math has changed considerably since most parents have been in school. I am up-to-date on current methods, practices and theory in the teaching of math. I believe that given a teacher who will work to unlock students' potential, every student has the ability to succeed in school. I have had tremendous success with students who previously struggled, including students with learning disabilities, students with mild to moderate DD, students on the autism spectrum, students with ADHD, and students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. I have passed the Mathematics Praxis II (national exam for teachers), achieved a perfect score on the elementary content knowledge Praxis exam, and scored in the top 1% nationwide on both the SAT and GRE math exams. I recently completed a year of service as an Americorps teaching fellow and completed training in increasing student achievement through The New Teacher Project. I have recent FBI and BCI background checks and a fingerprint clearance card available. The rate is $30 for a one hour private tutoring session. Once a week is recommended. Contact me for further information about my experience and qualifications. Watching a student who has struggled begin to succeed, and then to reach levels of success that they previously thought unattainable never fails to fill me with happiness and pride. Unlocking a students potential and clearing away the things that have blocked them from reaching their potential is like solving a puzzle. I find it challenging and rewarding, and extremely satisfying.

My son had a F in Algebra 2, with an average of 26% ), at the end of the first quarter. We started tutoring with Jim, and for the fourth quarter, my son had an A, with an average of 99%. He got 100% on the final. Thank you, Jim!

I had one week to prepare for the Quantitative/Math part of the Graduate Record exam. Jim and I worked daily for 75 minutes and I succeeded at getting the score I needed for admittance to my chosen PhD program -- Understand: I had not done any math whatsoever in DECADES. He helped me conceptualize the problems rather than simply solve them and it he did it in this low-key way that made me feel capable and confident. On my own, it would have been completely overwhelming. His fee, if anything, was too low for the quality of time he spent. Outside of our tutoring time, he also went to great lengths to download and print out information I needed to orient myself to the test as a whole and basically to be in a position to relax and execute a reasonable strategy for taking the test. Jim comes with my highest and most enthusiastic commendation.
