Introduction: I've been teaching for over 20 years. I am a member of MTNA, OMTA, and OMTA East, actively pursue new pedagogical research, advocate for PASK, and collaborate with living composers and music publishers. I have adjudicated, presented, and chaired events as a member of the TMTA. In addition, I have devoted time to working in diverse arenas to enhance accessibility of music, including a music group for stroke patients. My students have premiered the works of contemporary composers, performed beautifully in adjudicated events, learn to speak music conversationally and naturally. I studied piano from a young age, continued to study piano performance in college, and performed with the Giocoso Trio in Tucson, AZ. The most effective lessons are tailored to you: your interests, your abilities, and your goals. While I am classically trained, I embrace a versatile teaching style. I've been told that I have a gentle presence, and a soothing approach. My specialization is in establishing strong, healthy piano technique in beginners, and rehabilitation for those students who never received a foundation in technique to begin with. I have been working with Rose City Piano Studio for many years now, and I have had the most wonderful experience learning piano. Jessica is a fantastic teacher. She is professional, patient, kind, understanding, and caring. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. She truly values the progress of her students and their hard work. She motivates me to practice regularly to be prepared for every lesson, and I see the constant progress in my piano skills. Her lessons require you to put in effort into your playing, and it really pays off. My technique skills and knowlege of music theory has greatly improved as I've worked with her. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We will go through a short orientation to introduce you to online lessons and to make sure your setup will work. Based on your experience, interests, and goals, I will help you tailor an ideal program.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Lifelong piano student, studied piano performance and music theory in college, and I have been teaching piano for 20 years. I have been a member of MTNA, given presentations, attend conferences, contribute regularly to pedagogy forums, and performed with the Giocoso Trio.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
My college professor recommended I teach at a local music school.
