Ms. Thambidurai was my AP Statistics teacher during my senior year of highschool. Like many seniors, I didn’t try as much as I probably should have in school. Ms. T somehow cut through my lazy senior-self and managed to keep me and my peers engaged during class. She teaches with a distinct vibrant energy that makes new, complex material easy and fun to learn. When students are confused, she’s always willing to explain concepts as many times as we need. Ms. T created a learning environment that was genuinely fun and effective. She pushed us to learn and at the same time never made us feel embarrassed if we were confused. I’m a college student now at UC Berkeley. The foundation in statistics and math that Ms. T built in me has honestly been a lifesaver. This past semester, I took a data science class that blends statistics and computer science for data analytics. A huge part of the reason I did well in that class was because of Ms. T’s class in high school. Her teaching helped me retain information for over a year! I’ve talked to my friends who Ms. T also taught and they’ve had similar experiences. I wish my current professors were as effective as Ms. T is!

Throughout my high school education, my math teachers were always my favorite and Mrs. Thambidurai was no exception! During my time as her student, I not only learned the material she was teaching, but also understood how and when to apply the concepts. She used real-world examples and numbers to have us better understand some pretty abstract concepts. Another reason I enjoyed learning through Mrs. T was due to the fact that she never taught at us/lectured at us. She guided and worked through concepts with us so that we could learn them for ourselves. Mrs. Thambidurai is tough and diligent in making sure you understand whatever it is you’re learning, however, she keeps things interesting and always made sure that we were enjoying what we were doing (as much as she can with what she was teaching!). I would not have wanted to learn statistics from anyone else, and credit my success in college to her comprehensive teaching style.
