Introduction: I have been passionate about working with kids and in education my whole life. I was hired by a tutoring company when I was in high school and worked there for two years after school. After graduating from Duke University, I worked for two years as a high school math teacher, teaching topics from algebra 2 to geometry to statistics to lower level calculus. My school was aligned with the Common Core curriculum as well as was very focused on the ACT. Consequently, I am familiar with this new educational platform and have significant experience teaching the math section of the ACT.
While I really enjoyed teaching, my favorite part of the experience was working with students in office hours. I love working in one-on-one or in small group settings because it allows me to tailor my support specifically to the individual. It is remarkable how much progress students can make when they receive individualized attention. All students are incredibly capable, but do not always see it in themselves. Math in particular can be a discouraging subject - I want to help students build confidence and be able to perform in class or on assessments in a way that is a true reflection of their abilities.
