Introduction: Warp Drive Tutors is a math and science specific tutoring firm; we do not tutor any other subjects. Our tutors are all math or science teachers from well known, competitive high schools who make their livings teaching the very subjects that your child struggles with. All tutoring is done over an interactive whiteboard/video, where we supply the program and everything needed (see our media gallery for examples). Your child has the opportunity to write on the whiteboard while the tutor can make simultaneous corrections, all while connecting over video and interacting as if they were sitting together at the dining room table. Scheduling becomes a breeze, and you have access to the best tutors available--not just the best tutors in your geographic area. As another advantage to you, we have tutors available for multiple math and science subjects. So if there is one sibling who struggles with calculus and another with AP Chemistry, we have got you covered. We love to see teenagers excel in math and science, especially those who thought they "just couldn't do it." You can do it, and there is a whole world of incredible creativity and discovery that awaits you if you can get through the basics!

We used Warp Drive Tutors with all three of my kids, at various times and for various subjects. Long story short, they are absolutely terrific. They are patient and friendly, understand the material thoroughly, and became true friends and allies for my kids. My kids are all smart kids, though they all have slight learning disabilities (slow processing speeds and mild executive dysfunction), with tutoring used to expand and secure the depth of the knowledge they obtained in class. My twins Mark and Mindy, now almost 23, used them WDT the most. They both attended a very rigorous private high school in NYC and they both were very grateful for the help they received with their sciences classes and math classes, as well as the SAT science subject tests. They did very well, As in their classes and near perfect SAT scores. The tutors from Warp Drive Tutors gave them the gift of the opportunity to be genuinely themselves and deal with all their confusions, doubts, and questions, especially dumb questions, in a truly safe place, where they would not be judged or graded, and could take all the time they needed to learn the material thoroughly.

My son, Paul, found himself in AP chemistry in senior year without the proper foundation and hopelessly lost. He had taken basic chemistry as an accelerated course in the summer after freshman year and remembered nothing. Of course, this was crunch time for the college apps! Paul, by the midpoint of the first marking period, was receiving a grade of C, something he had never had before, and could really not afford now. It would have been devastating! Well, Warp Drive to the rescue!!! Paul met with Josh online, his skills were assessed, and a schedule for online sessions was coordinated. Paul and Josh worked together to shore up the foundational knowledge, then to move forward. Josh was wonderful in accommodating Pauls challenging schedule (he was drum captain in the marching band and on the fencing team, so not a lot of free time). With hard work from Paul and the right instruction from Josh, Pauls C became a B+ by the release of first quarter grades. Every grade thereafter was an A (often achieving the highest exam grade in the class). Pauls overall grade for the course was an A and he was admitted early to his first choice of college. Paul would not have been where he is now without Warp Drive and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Our prices depend on a variety of factors, but we would prefer to discuss pricing after we have made initial contact.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We have a discussion with the parent and student regarding what specific areas of their math, chemistry, biology, or physics course is causing problems. Are they doing poorly and if so, how specifically can we can address their performance? Or, are they B students who want to get an A? Either way we look at the specific challenges of the student; every kid is different and we want to know as much about a particular student as we can. If they want to take an SAT Subject test in math or science, we will discuss how much prep is needed and determine a starting date. We then match the student with an appropriate tutor based on that discussion. The student can change tutors at any time. We also provide a brief run through of how our whiteboard system works, which students and parents are allowed to try out in advance. Tutor and student make an appointment and go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
First, everyone in our group is a professional teacher in the subject they tutor. Also, everyone attended a competitive undergraduate college or university, majored in the subject they are teaching, and have a graduate degree in that subject. Several of our tutors have PhDs and have done post-docs. All have had excellent student evals.
