Introduction: The Serene Home is based on the KonMari Method of Home Organization and Tidying. Services are performed by a certified KonMari Consultant trained under Marie Kondo. I am also a member of NAPO, National Association of Professional Organizers and RESA, Real Estate Staging Association. Home and Business Organization: My method is designed to organize and tidy your space once and for all. You will learn how to determine what items should stay, and which should go. Together, we will organize all your belongings so that your days become more efficient, productive and relaxing. Home Staging: The value of your home will increase dramatically when staging is conducted before a sale. The goal is to allow prospective buyers to see themselves living in your home. Staging during a sale helps the seller realize a 20% additional profit on average. We will take your existing home items, remove clutter, bring in furniture and accessories and make color and design choices that enhance the beauty of your home. Organizing homes small and large is a life long passion. I fell in love with the KonMari method when I saw the benefits of the method in creating a serene, peaceful environment for me and my family. Following many hours and years of practicing organization techniques, I wanted to turn my passion into a business that would help others.

I started working with Karin a few months ago as I was getting ready to renovate my apartment and needed some help with organization. As it turned out, the project has taken longer than expected and has had some complications, but with Karin’s help, I have been able to stay relaxed and calm, while taking care of various organizational issues step by step. Karin has brought a sense of peace to my apartment. She seems to know exactly where the best place for all of my things and has helped arranged them in a way that is accessible to me. I am now able to get to the things I need when I need them. She is very optimistic and is very committed to me as her client. We have reduced the clutter and unnecessary paperwork and clothes, giving me more room. She is always thinking how to make better use of my space so that my apartment is more comfortable and enjoyable. We have definitely gotten to know each other and have had some good talks and many laughs along the way. She knows what my goals are and gently pushes me toward them. I would like to add my thanks to Thumbtack to, since that it how I met Karin. It was a blind item I discovered by just googling "organizing" on my I PAD, and am so very happy with the results. Karin had taken on a monumental task and has been able to reduce it to a very manageable project. All the people who initially responded to my original request were very professional and I felt very comfortable with what I decided to do; but also knew I had other choices if I needed additional help. I am so very grateful that Karin was my first choice, and because of her my whole life has become more serene.

Karin from The Serene Home came to my house to help me sort through my clothes and winter coats as the seasons changed. Her way of helping me was so helpful and supportive. I found clothing and accessories that I had forgotten all about that I could use again. Karin showed me how to give a critical look to all of the items in my closets in order to eliminate everything that was just taking up space. Her way of counseling me made it easy to decide what to keep and what to donate. I love everything in my closet now and feel like I have a brand new complete wardrobe! Karin worked beside me the entire time with helpful suggestions and assistance. While I thought this might be stressful, it was actually a liberating and freeing experience. Once we were finished, I felt very relaxed and happy with my beautiful newly tidy closets! I highly recommend Karin from the Serene Home for organizing and tidying up.

Working with Karin and The Serene Home for organizational guidance and de-cluttering, was the best decision for my Mom (and me) in every way. Karin is a very bright, lovely, gentle and kind person. Psychology and real estate staging are excellent backgrounds for her engaging in work that she loves and is so well suited for. It’s obvious that the clarity of an organizational mindset comes naturally for her. In working with Karin during this project, she has remained consistent in all areas. Her aim is to getting the job done efficiently, with practical protocols and realistic goal setting. With a “no problems, only solutions” approach, Karin is willing every step of the way. Some of the time, Karin works with my Mom “one on one”, and my Mom always looks forward to the days she’ll be working with her. I contacted The Serene Home after learning about KonMari and was hoping to get some assistance with organizing my home. Because I live outside the NYC area, I was able to use her virtual tidying plan and work with her via email and FaceTime. This was the perfect solution for me. My week is super busy and my free time very limited, but this program allowed me complete flexibility. Karin & I set up a time to do an initial consult via FaceTime. We talked about all of my challenges and Karin created a plan for me to get started. It was super easy to follow. Karin is very enthusiastic and inspiring and made the whole experience much more pleasant than it would have been on my own. It was great to have her guidance & support throughout the process. Following up with a call after each category and encouraging emails, Karin walked me through each step, answering all my questions. When I began thinking about selling our home, Karin was a fantastic help with her knowledge of getting the house ready to show. She provided me with tons of suggestions on how to prepare & stage my home. I really enjoyed working with Karin. It's obvious that she loves tidying with a passion and it's very contagious! My closets look so great and organized now. It's so much easier to find things and start my day off right. I definitely recommend The Serene Home for any organization or home staging project!

If you are creatively organized (or other people call it "messy"), Karin is your lady! As a typically busy NYC person with little storage space, I needed a way to maximize my space and minimize the time I spend straightening up. I needed HELP! I have had a few organizing services come to my apartment over the years, but none of them really helped get my apartment in order once and for all the way Karin at The Serene Home did. Karin was the only professional who took the time to sit down with me to discuss what my life was like and what would help me best. She also walked me through the steps so I could maintain my new system. Karin is very patient with me and not judgmental. Highly recommend!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My fees for organizing are by the hour. Most inital sessions with a client last between 3-5 hours. The number of sessions depends on your needs and how much "homework" you are able to complete in between meetings. Most clients will have 3-4 sessions to complete their home organization. For home staging, my fees are based on the number of rooms staged, complexity of the staging and the length of time the home is on the market.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once we have decided to work together, I will meet with you in your home and complete a questionnaire to better help me understand your needs and your lifestyle. Following this, we will develop a plan and begin organizing your items. If you are preparing to sell your home, I will work with you and your realtor to create a stunning showplace.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a KonMari consultant training under Marie Kondo, one of the first consultants outside of Japan. I am a member of NAPO, the National Association of Professional Organizers and a member of RESA, the Real Estate Staging Association. I have a Masters Degree in clinical psychotherapy and an MBA in finance. I have been organizing spaces for more than 30 years.
