FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
You never pay retail so that development costs, such as a CAD, waxes, molds and models will be absorbed. With gold and platinum, you get the opportunity to have your own custom work without crazy expense. The exception is if you want only a single piece in silver or stainless steel. In this case the development costs cannot be absorbed in discounts. NOTE: It costs each Thumbtack Pro money to connect and communicate with you, whether you initiate through a request, or if we answer your bid. Sometimes it's an easy job to do, but the cost to communicate with you does not make sense, such as repairing a bent ring, appraisal, etc. If you make a request for my services, and it does not make sense to answer, I do apologize. It's a quirk in the system that makes me feel rude. I would want to answer every one of you, but the finances don't make sense.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The process varies depending on you. Some come with renderings, some only with ideas. We communicate with words, drawings, graphics, etc. until I channel everything you want, and add more than expected. Once ready to go we decide whether this should be hand fabricated, or first created as a computer design called a CAD. The advantage of CAD is that you will be able to look at 3D images which seem like actual jewelry, and we can keep making changes until it’s perfect for you. The CAD is then printed into a wax. From the wax we can either make the jewelry if you are certain that you only want one piece. If you want to make more than one, or want a back-up, we make a silver model which gets cleaned and polished. When the model is ready, we make a mold. And with the mold, we can make as many as you want. With the silver model, we can also give you prices in silver, platinum, and any karat of gold.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As an accidental designer, my only training is imagination. In some ways this might be what makes my work unique - I have not been molded by anyone else. I have been designing and selling jewelry since late 2000, early 2001.
