FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Utilizing the knowledge, guidance and experience of a designer is not as expensive as many think, especially when you are making such a large investment in your home or office. All projects are unique and require a different type of design direction. Home Styling Consultation– 2 hours for $150. This is designed to help clients find the right design direction in their home or office space. Additionally, we offer guidance in space planning, lighting, and color. This is perfect for the DIY’er who is looking for a designer touch. Total Room Design Fee– Starting at $400 per room, this service combines the Home Styling aspect of MKD Design services but takes it to the next level. In addition to design and styling recommendations, we will create a space plan, lighting plan, furniture selection, and accessory package. Furthermore, we can work with you and your contractor and provide installation services. Al a Carte Services – $90.00/Hour. This design service is catered to clients who are looking for simple and easy design advice. Typically this is working with individuals and business who are looking to pick out new materials or make graduated design improvements for renovations or new construction projects. Some clients only purchase a few hours which helps them make the best choices up front for their projects while others choose to have design services throughout the entire scope of the project. In large scale projects a variety of situations can occur that require innovative and creative solutions. Since I work as an independent designer I do not up-charge for materials purchased (cabinetry, furniture, fabrics, etc.). You are free to purchase materials directly from any source that fits your lifestyle and budget while I help guide you throughout the decision making process.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I think it is important to meet clients at their home so I can truly have an idea of what they are looking to do. There is no charge for an initial in home consultation. Typically, prior to meeting I send a short, digital 10 question survey to understand the client's concerns and specific needs. This also helps me be better prepared for our first in-person meeting. Most importantly, I make it high priority to listen to my clients and their needs.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold an Applied Science Degree in Interior Design and have been working as a designer for more than six years. I also have a Certificate in Green Design and am a Certified Occupied Staging Specialist. I am a member of the Tidewater Community College Interior Design Advisory Committee and serve as an Officer of the Oceanview Business Association. In addition, I have volunteered as a mentor for the Tidewater Builders Association Dreaming of Design Contest and worked on hand renderings for Homearama.
