FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
There is a flat rate for all lessons at Point Breeze Piano and an added travel fee for In-Home lessons. The travel fee is based solely on your distance from Point Breeze Piano.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Firstly, Students and teachers will meet once or twice per week, with the first week's meeting being a free consultation. During the 20-30 minute consultation, Students, Parents, and Guardians will discuss with the teacher their expectations, goals, musical interests, and other things like that. The teacher will explain the difference between the types of Method Books, might hand you some New Student questionnaires, and that's it. The following week the Student will have their first lesson, probably 30-45 minutes, but may be an hour for more advanced Students. Each week you will meet with your teacher at the same time, for the same amount of time. Obviously, it's preferable to have a routine when you're trying to learn something new like this. - What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies, with a concentration in Piano, from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Class of 2013. I've studied with Tom Lawton and Don Glanden (students of the great French pianist Bernard Peiffer), Trudy Pitts (contemporary of John Coltrane and McCoy Tyner among many others), and Gary Moran (student of pianist Barry Harris). I've had lots of other great teachers but these mentioned stick out to me.
