He told me that he could not give a price for a new timer for my Maytag dryer even though I had the part information which you can look up online to many different part stores and get the price ranging from $137 to $147 and add on what he would charge for labor. I wrote a second time and said I had no problem getting a bid saying part is $137 - $147 (unless he had a better source as he certainly can look up what the part costs him) and he should know what his labor charge is to install a timer. I also said I was ok with a caveat that if something unforseen happened during the installation that price may change. He insisted that I pay a diagnostic fee of I think it was $60 which would be applied to the repair if I chose to use them for the repair. I would not hire anyone that cant give me either his hourly charge or if he is experienced in changing out timer switches he should know how long it takes -- and cover himself by saying thats if nothing goes wrong. He refused to do that and only would come with paying his diagnosis charge so I went elsewhere to get it fixed and just it cost me $143 for part and $100 for labor and I was happy to pay it. What if he came out and then told me his labor was $150 or $200 I would have been out $60 for his "diagnosis" which I already knew I had a bad timer.

Matt diagnosed the problem with my dryer, obtained the needed part and finished the repair in the same day. I will call him again if I need other appliance repairs.
