The Human Dog Team

Introduction: I receive great joy from teaching clients the tools needed to handle unexpected situations with their dogs as their relationship evolves. When there is trust and consistency between dogs and humans, a balanced bond is formed. My philosophy is “request from a dog what we do need, rather than focusing on what we don’t”. With this method, a positive association is established between the dog and the desired behavior, leading to quicker learning and long-lasting results. Ideally, behavior modification looks to change a dog’s reaction to a situation, a person, a thing, an animal, etc. This is best done when the dog and owner have a set of commands to communicate with. Though this might sound easy to do, problems can arise later on if we only focus on what the dog does and not what is going on inside, why it happens, when it happens, and what it looks like before it starts. The goal in any of my training sessions is to set your dog up for success. For me this means the techniques we use should be easily implemented by any type of person, not just the trainer or owner. My joy comes from teaching clients the tools needed to deal with unexpected situations and in understanding how to handle them as the human dog connection evolves. I have always felt that the relationship between dogs and humans is a great reflection of a balanced life that values community, compassion, and love. Believing that where there is trust and consistency between dogs and humans, a sacred bond is formed that is therapeutic and healing for both the dog and human.
