Introduction: I offer private tutoring in reading and writing and assistance with writing and reading assignments of all kinds for native English speakers and bilingual English students.
Having taught as lecturer in academia for several years and later as a tutor to kids ages 6-16, I’m prepared to assist with specific assignments at any level, or to create a general reading and writing program to help improve dexterity with language and comprehension. I work well as a reading and writing partner and general homework tutor for young children. Additionally, I have the experience to help guide middle and high school students who feel overwhelmed by large writing assignments or college application essays, or to assist adults seeking a higher level of fluency in English.
I love teaching outside of the classroom because it dispenses with all of the social distractions and institutional agendas. This allows me to hone in on the goals and strengths of each student. When working one-on-one, I really get to know my students well and can better meet their individual needs.

A wonderful 5 stars. Kristen tutored my 7 year old son in reading and writing during the summer. I thought I would quote Kristen from a few of the updates she emailed us as I feel this aptly captures Kristen’s dedication, quality and professionalism as a tutor:
“My hope is to help James feel authority and confidence when he chooses a book. The "quality" of the reading material is less important than the habit. No matter what he reads, he is becoming a better reader as long as he engages with the book…
Learning to write is a procedural practice, meaning we wear it into our brains like a groove in a record. The improvement will happen over time. By the end of the week James could read his own writing back to me. At the beginning of the week, he couldn’t. Also he proposed his own writing assignment in lesson three. That self-challenging initiative is a good sign. That means he understands how to utilize tutoring, how to create an idea out of nothing, and how organize his thoughts around that idea. He dictated the piece and then I recited his dictation and assisted with spelling of larger words as he wrote. He clearly wanted to communicate his thoughts on soccer in writing…” My son ended the summer with a book about dinosaurs that he wrote and illustrated with Kristen facilitating the process and discovered a confidence and enthusiasm for reading and writing. Kristen was excellent in every way. Her editing suggestions were all very helpful.
By the way, this block of your form was almost invisible to me. I didn't even know it was here, until "Submit Review" wouldn't work for me, and I searched for the reason why. This part of the form appeared very faintly, the text in it was illegible because it was so faint.

Kristen was essential in my English learning process - I practically learned to speak and write in English from her. She's a master of her mother tongue: profound and eloquent. On top of her knowledge, she is able to teach English in an exciting way which makes studying a lot of fun.

Kristen edited my PhD dissertation in psychology superbly. She strengthened the quality of my writing significantly, taught me a number of techniques to improve further, and worked extremely quickly and professionally.
