Introduction: I am a seasoned multi-subject tutor who is now accepting clients in the Seattle area. Born and raised in Seattle (Ballard), I graduated from Yale University with degrees in History and Political Science before working for several years as a faculty member at an elite New England prep school teaching English, History, Writing and Study Skills alongside work in the school's College Counseling office. I can tutor most elementary, middle and high school subjects, as well as the SAT. In addition, I coach basketball and - my greatest sports love - soccer. I have a diverse array of life experiences that I enjoy discussing with students, from working on political campaigns to living for a year in South Africa to bicycling across the United States. I greatly enjoy working with students to help them discover their own love of learning. I take great pride in the high quality of my work with students of all backgrounds and learning abilities.

Chris was hired to be a writing tutor for our son. What we got was that, plus so so much more! As a former high school teacher, Chris understands and relates incredibly well with high schoolers. He helped our son to organize himself better (refine his executive function skills), and write in a more organized, purposeful and effective way. Our son's grades and test scores showed the impact of Chris' attention, and we are so happy we made the connection. You would be fortunate to connect your child to Chris. He is that rare individual who really cares, and makes a significant positive impact in your child's (and your family's) life.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My tutoring rate is $80 per hour, and my first session is always free of charge. This allows families and students to get to know me and my teaching style, and to determine if it will be a good fit moving forward.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

After an initial phone call to learn about the student, I offer a free first tutoring session so the family and student can get to know me and determine if it is a good tutor-student fit. We then proceed from there based on the student's needs and schedule.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in History and Political Science. I then worked for three years as a faculty member at the Noble and Greenough School, an elite college prep school in Boston, MA, teaching History, English, Writing and Study Skills to students in grades 6-12. I also worked in the school's College Counseling department, assisting students with preparing college applications and essays.
