FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
A 50-minute reading session, following the Orton-Gillingham approach, costs $80. For children who have less stamina, I also offer 30-minute sessions for $60. There is an initial materials fee of $10.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Whether a child has been diagnosed with a specific language-based learning disability such as dyslexia or the child just needs additional reading instruction and practice, I design a weekly tutoring program (usually 2 50-minute sessions a week) to help the child become a stronger reader. I like to arrange an initial meeting with the student on his or her own turf, perhaps at a local coffee shop, ice cream store, park, or library so we can meet in a low-key, low-stress way. There is no charge for this initial meet-up, but I've found it helpful to reduce potential stress over tutoring.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters in Education, Certificates in early literacy from Cambridge University, UK, and additional training in tutoring children with dyslexia, from the Carroll School.
